Why music therapy? In his book Defining Music Therapy (2014), music therapist and researcher Ken Bruscia writes that music therapy is unique in that it is sound centered, beauty centered, creativity centered, and relationship centered. Music therapy is an evidence-based practice that invites clients to find their harmonious whole. If you are looking for a creative way to explore your mental health and wellness goals, music therapy might be for you!

Guided Imagery and Music (GIM) is my favorite part of my practice. GIM is a depth-informed music psychotherapy approach pairing guided imagery techniques with programmed music to stimulate journeys of the imagination. Basically, GIM is like an active day dream to music. Therapists (guides) make musical choices based on the clients (traveler) needs and goals. It’s such a whimsical approach, rooted in science and research. I love guiding GIM sessions & I love being the traveler! I’d love to hear from other therapists (especially other creative arts therapists) - what is your favorite part of your work? And from those of you who have engaged in therapy (especially creative arts therapy) - if you feel comfortable sharing, what have you found most effective? What has been your favorite part of going to therapy?
