Last Saturday found us at the Whitley County Farmers Market, where we enjoyed another beautiful morning with our market community.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table, visited with us, and made the morning such a pleasure.

As we celebrate Labor Day, I’m especially grateful for the work that happens behind the scenes here at Feighner Farm.

The work begins long before a product ever reaches our market table. The tending, harvesting, drying, infusing, formulating, filling, labeling, and preparing each small batch. It’s not always glamorous work, but it’s meaningful work, and I’m grateful to do it.

There’s something special about knowing where the plants come from, taking the time to work with them carefully, and then being able to place the finished product into the hands of someone who will use and appreciate it.

So this Labor Day, I’m grateful for the work, for this little farm, and especially for the people who make it all worthwhile.

Thank you for supporting our small business and for allowing us to keep doing this work we love.

🌿 We had such a great time at Fill the Field at Parkview Field last night!

A big thank you to the 3 Rivers Yoga Foundation organizers for putting together such a fun evening, and to everyone who came out and supported the event. It was a beautiful night to be outside, meet new people, and have some really wonderful conversations about botanical skincare and holistic wellness.
I loved connecting with others who are doing their own work in the holistic wellness space and getting to share ideas and experiences.

We’re so glad we could be part of it!

A quick market update for this weekend: We will not be at the final Roanoke Farmers Market tonight. We thoroughly enjoyed being part of it and look forward to next year.

But we’ll be at the Whitley County Farmers Market tomorrow morning, as usual, from 8:00–12:30. 🌱

🌿 Goldenrod (solidago) is having its moment.

As the fields begin to turn gold, one of the plants most often blamed for fall allergies is making its annual appearance.

But goldenrod is getting a bad rap.

Goldenrod is not the culprit behind most fall hay fever.

That blame belongs largely to ragweed (ambrosia), which blooms at roughly the same time. Ragweed produces abundant, lightweight pollen that is easily carried by the wind. Goldenrod, on the other hand, has heavier, stickier pollen and relies primarily on insects for pollination.

So while the two may bloom side by side, they play very different roles.

And goldenrod has a long history of being valued by herbalists.

The flowering tops of Solidago species are traditionally used as a urinary herb, supporting healthy urinary flow. Goldenrod is also valued for its astringent and anti-inflammatory properties, and herbalists have traditionally prepared it as an infusion or tincture for internal use and incorporated it into topical preparations.

Its flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and other plant constituents give us a glimpse into why this bright autumn plant has held a place in herbal traditions for generations.

But perhaps one of my favorite things about goldenrod is what it reminds us about plants:
Not everything growing abundantly around us is something to be feared.

Sometimes the plant we overlook, or blame, is the one worth getting to know a little better.

Goldenrod is one of those plants.

Another wonderful weekend in the books. 🌿

Two markets, plenty of familiar faces, new faces, and so many conversations that reminded us why we love being part of our local markets.

With this being the first weekend we offered freshly jarred honey from this year’s harvest, there were quite a few conversations about honey and beekeeping. 🐝🍯 We loved sharing a little about our bees, the work that goes into a harvest, and hearing your questions and stories, too.

And then there were the conversations that wandered into some of our favorite territory…

Native vs. non-native plants.
Choosing plants based on their botanical constituents.
And the many different ways we each like to use plants to support ourselves and our families.

These are the conversations we treasure most, the ones that go beyond simply talking about a product and turn into sharing knowledge, experiences, curiosity, and a deeper appreciation for the plants around us.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table this weekend, purchased something, asked a question, shared a story, or simply took a few minutes to stop and say “Hi”.

We’re grateful for every conversation.
