Unity Doula Education Days are simply life giving. This is challenging work, and as doulas we often work solo alongside our clients. Building relationships and partnerships with nurses, clinicians, and with other doulas is invaluable.

These events remind us we’re part of a care team and we feel it, deeply. Thank you to Unity and Rochester Regional Health for hosting this awesome event, to Monroe County Community Health Improvement Planning and Island Wraps for an amazing lunch, and to all of the instructors and volunteers who made it happen!

Our topic was Meeting Pain with Possibility: Where Practice, Choice, and Physiology Meet. We learned about the physiology of pain, supporting our clients with both non-medical and medical options in birth, and… drumroll… Unity will be offering water birth as an option for low risk birthers in 2027! 💦🌊

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, a time set aside to recognize the grief of bereaved parents, honor their lost little ones, and share in support for their journey. Star Legacy, a leader in education, support, and awareness for bereaved families, says this, “Promoting awareness of pregnancy and infant loss not only increases the likelihood that grieving families will receive understanding and support, but also results in improved education and prevention efforts which may ultimately reduce the incidence of these tragedies.”

“It takes a village.”

It’s something we hear all the time when talking about raising children—but what does a village actually look like today?

For many families, grandparents or extended family may not live nearby. Friends may be balancing their own families or busy lives. And sometimes, the support system we imagined looks different than we expected.

But the need for connection and support hasn’t changed.

Today’s village may look like a doula who helps you feel confident during birth.

A lactation consultant who supports you through feeding challenges.

A postpartum group where you realize you’re not alone.

A yoga instructor who helps you reconnect with yourself.

A new parent friend who understands exactly what you’re going through.

We absolutely are thrilled to offer another Birth Doula training here at our own space in Rochester, NY!

Our birth doula training is an opportunity to step into that role with confidence through hands-on learning, evidence-based education, and connection with a community of birth workers.

Our next birth doula training is happening November 6–8, 2026, at Beautiful Birth Choices.
