Old reliable has become questionable. I hate that we can’t trust the things that we’ve used forever. If you feel that it’s time for a change, my solid dish soap is made with coconut oil, and scented with essential oils. Two ingredients. That’s it! Liquid dish soap is coming soon!
While heavily marketed as a gentle, wildlife-saving staple, conventional Dawn dish soap has faced intense scrutiny from consumer advocacy organizations like the Environmental Working Group (EWG) for containing or generating at least four substances linked to cancer. Chief among these concerns are 1,4-dioxane, an invisible, unlisted manufacturing byproduct of sudsing agents like sodium laureth sulfate that health authorities classify as a probably human carcinogen.
Additionally, the formula utilizes formaldehyde-releasing preservatives to prevent bacterial growth, which slowly degrades into a known human carcinogen, alongside synthetic fragrances and artificial dyes (such as Acid Blue 9) that can mask endocrine disruptors and carry heavy chemical impurities. Because this soap is used daily to clean the very plates, forks and bottles families eat from, independent researchers warn that cumulative, long-term exposure to these microscopic chemical residues introduces avoidable, chronic health risks directly to the dinner table.
Dawn isn’t alone…many commercial dish soaps are packed with hidden endocrine disruptors, synthetic fragrances, and harsh preservatives like MIT or BIT that can leave an invisible chemical film on your kitchen plates. To avoid these toxins while steering clear of “big food” or major chemical conglomerates that have bought out formerly green brands, look to the brands listed in the comments section (I have no affiliation with any of them) 🫶
