Finally up north with nowhere to be, nothing we have to do, coffee in hand. Which means my brain finally has room to wander back to candles.

Sitting here playing around with the holiday lineup, bringing back the favorites, adding a few new scents, and thinking it might be time to freshen up the labels a bit too.

So help me out… what do you want your house to smell like this holiday season? And are we ready for a little HBH label glow-up, or do we leave a good thing alone?

I wanna know what you all actually want.

One of the quieter layers of HBH. 🫧🤍

I’ve been white labeling products for other small businesses for years, and honestly, it’s one of my favorite parts of what I do.

There’s something really special about getting to work behind the scenes, taking someone else’s scents, ideas, & vision and helping bring another little piece of their brand to life.

These foaming hand soaps are made by me, right here at HBH, for my friend Amanda at Palms, Psalms, & Prosecco using her scents blends.

No big flashy collab. Just two small businesses, a lot of good smells, and getting to create something lovely together.

I think I’ve realized lately that I really like it back here… behind the scenes, creating with good people, doing work that feels good and letting things grow a little more slowly.

Maybe growth doesn’t always have to be loud. Sometimes it just quietly becomes something beautiful.

There’s something about a midday rainstorm that feels like permission to stop.

Thunder grumbling in the distance.
Darkened sky.
Rain tapping against the windows.
A fall candle lit entirely too early according to some people… but those people don’t live in my house.

Summer has been full. The good kind of full. The exhausting kind. The what day is it and why is there always somewhere we need to be kind.
And I know what’s coming next isn’t exactly slowing down.

It’s just a new version of busy.
New schedules. New routines. Cooler nights. Football. Dance. School. Weekends that somehow fill themselves before they even arrive.

But today, right before another weekend begins, the rain came through and everything got a little quieter. So I lit the fall candle.

And instead of dreading the next round of chaos, I’m feeling a little hopeful for it.
For the changing leaves.
Open windows.
Sweatshirts.
Candlelight at 4:30pm.
And whatever this next season brings.

Maybe we don’t always need life to slow down.
Maybe sometimes we just need to get better at finding the quiet inside the busy.
Here’s to the next season.
And the next version of busy.

I've been thinking a lot about silence lately.
Not the awkward kind. But the kind that feels like home. The kind that exists between two people who know they don't have to fill every space with words.

A sunrise that quietly arrives whether we're watching or not.
A campfire after everyone has stopped talking.
A song that somehow understands your heart before you do.
The stillness of the lake.
The rhythm of the ocean.
The smell of fresh-cut grass.
A friend who reaches for your hand instead of searching for the perfect words.

Maybe that's why I've always been drawn to the ordinary. Not because it's ordinary at all...
But because I think we've forgotten how extraordinary it really is.

We've become so busy waiting for the next milestone that we overlook the life unfolding in between.
Tuesday afternoons.
Long commutes with the right playlist.
Watching your kids do what they love.
The dog greeting you like you've been gone for years.
A quiet evening on the porch.

These moments won't make the highlight reel.
But I have a feeling they're the ones we'll miss the most someday.

I've also learned that the people who leave the deepest imprint on our hearts aren't always the ones who have the perfect words.
They're the ones who stay.
Who sit beside us when life feels heavy.
Who understand that silence isn't something to fix.

It's something to share.
Sometimes love isn't spoken.
Sometimes it's witnessed.
Sometimes it's simply someone saying,
"You don't have to carry today alone."

Maybe that's what I've been chasing all along.
Not perfection.
Not more.
Just a life where I notice what's already here.
The beauty.
The music.
The people.

The ordinary moments that quietly become extraordinary simply because we chose to pay attention.

If High Bun Hippies becomes anything...
I hope it's a place that reminds people of that.
A place that slows you down.
A place that helps you breathe a little deeper.
A place that reminds you that the life you're waiting for might already be happening.
You just have to notice.
🤍✨

I've decided I'm done letting Mondays take all the blame. Maybe they're not the problem. Maybe we just forget to notice the good before the day gets away from us.

This morning mine was simple:
Rain tapping on the windshield.
Music turned up just enough.
A commute that's long enough to collect my thoughts before the day begins.

Nothing extraordinary. Just ordinary things that somehow make life feel a little fuller.
Your turn...

What's one little thing that's made you smile this morning?

And if your morning could use a soundtrack, this song has been mine lately. 🤍

Ever wonder where the name High Bun Hippies came from?

It actually started on an ice fishing trip.
Yep… of all places. If you know my family, you’re not surprised!

My husband looked at me in the middle of a dive bar, as we were jokingly throwing around business names and said, "High Bun Hippies."
At first I laughed.
But the more I thought about it, the more I realized, he had unknowingly described a part of me I had never really put into words.

The high bun part? Well... that's obvious. If you know me, you've probably seen me with my hair piled on top of my head at some point.
But the hippie part...
That wasn't about tie-dye or flower crowns.
It was about the way I chase peace.
I've always been pulled toward places that make me breathe a little deeper, and acknowledge the beauty in nature.

The quiet of a lake at sunrise.
The sound of waves rolling onto a beach.
A winding trail through the woods.
Towering pines.
A crackling campfire.
The smell after it rains.
Coffee in hand while the world is still waking up.
Honestly, any body of water has always felt like home to me.
Those places have a way of reminding me what's important.

Life moves fast, but I've learned something.
Peace isn't something you find once life finally slows down. It's something you choose to notice in the middle of the chaos.

That's what High Bun Hippies became.
Not just a candle company, but a reminder to create those moments. To light the candle. Sit on the dock. Watch the sunset. Listen to the waves. Take the walk. Tend to your garden. Open the windows. To pause long enough to realize, this life, even the messy, exhausting, beautifully imperfect one, is pretty incredible.

Maybe my husband gave it a name that day on the ice. But every peaceful place I've ever wandered has given it meaning.

So now I have to ask...
Where's the place that instantly makes your shoulders relax?
The lake?
The ocean?
The woods?
Your porch?
Somewhere else entirely?

I'd love to see it. Drop a picture in the comments if you have one. ✨🤍

✨ Meet the woman behind HBH ✨

Its been a while since I’ve introduced myself… in fact I’m not sure I ever have!

So, here we go! Hi! I'm Alisha.
The one pouring the candles, answering your messages at odd hours, printing labels, packing boxes, and probably covered in wax more often than I'd like to admit.

I'm also a wife to an incredibly patient husband, a mom to three amazing (and very busy!) kids, and if you know us in real life, chances are you've seen us bouncing between baseball diamonds football fields and dance competitions all year long. Around here, our calendar is basically organized by game times, recital schedules, tournaments, and the occasional "wait... who needs to be where?"

What a lot of people don't realize is that High Bun Hippies isn't my full-time job.
By day, I have a full-time 9–5 career. Then somewhere between dinner, sports, laundry, homework, and trying to keep everyone alive, I sneak away to make candles. Some nights it's peaceful. Other nights it's midnight and I'm pouring wax while wondering if anyone remembered to move the laundry to the dryer.

High Bun Hippies started because I wanted a creative outlet, something that was mine. A little bit of calm in the middle of life's beautiful chaos. I never imagined it would grow into what it has, and that's because of all of you.

One of my favorite parts of this journey has been finding ways to give back to the community that has supported my family for so many years. Whether it's partnering with my sons baseball team, my daughters dance studio, or other organizations through candle fundraisers, it means so much knowing that something I create can help kids chase their dreams on the field, on the stage, and beyond. Watching those fundraisers help families and programs while supporting my little business has been one of the biggest blessings.

This business isn't run by a huge team. It's just me, fueled by coffee, a good playlist, a whole lot of determination... and maybe a tiny bit of chaos.

Every order, every share, every comment, every fundraiser you've supported, every time you've told a friend about High Bun Hippies, you've helped this little dream continue to grow. And for that, I will never be able to thank you enough.

So whether you're here because you love candles, you stumbled across one of my sarcastic labels, you're supporting a fundraiser, or you're simply cheering on a small business, I'm so grateful you're here.

Here's to more candles, more community, more laughter, and embracing the beautiful mess that life can be. 🤍
