Congratulations to Tracy Vance of Pecos Valley Regional Communications Center (PVRCC)
on graduating Valedictorian of her Telecommunicator Class at the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy! 🏆
Dispatchers are often the voices you hear but the people you don’t see. They not only interact with the public during some of their most difficult moments, but also serve as the vital link between Police officers, Firefighters, and EMS, gathering information and sending help where it’s needed most.
We’re incredibly proud of Tracy and look forward to hearing her back on the radio! 💛💛

Roswell Police Department Peer Support members Adam Rhodes and Shady Nguyen recently attended A Warrior's Tale, an Officer resilience course instructed by Captain Sonny Garcia.
The training brought together first responders from multiple public safety agencies to promote resilience, increase awareness of wellness resources, and reinforce the importance of supporting one another.
Participants also had the opportunity to hear from Quay County Sheriff Dennis Garcia, who shared his personal experiences and perspective.
Thank you to New Mexico Mounted Patrol who made this impactful training possible.

The Roswell Police Department invites the public to National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 4, at the Roswell Recreation and Aquatic Center (1402 W. College Blvd.) from 6 to 8 p.m.

RPD and other law enforcement, fire and medical agencies will have some of their vehicles and equipment at the event for people to check out firsthand while visiting with the emergency responders.

During the event, the outdoor pool will be open to the public for free swimming beginning at 6:15 p.m. There is a limit of 200 people in the pool at a given time.

There will be food, games and raffles.

National Night Out began in 1984 as a way for communities across the country to build relationships among citizens and police, fire and medical emergency responders, while also raising crime-prevention awareness. Thousands of communities in all 50 states and U.S. territories, as well as in Canada, hold local events each year. Most National Night Out events are held on the first Tuesday in August, although some places hold events at other times.

The City of Roswell's Mission Pillar Award recognizes a city employee’s efforts in exhibiting one or more of the city's core values of accountability, communication, excellence, integrity and teamwork. One award winner is selected each month from the nominations received that month.

The honoree for the June Mission Pillar Award is Brittany Shannon, the assistant department manager at Consolidated Dispatch, which is the Pecos Valley Regional Communications Center.

The award nomination submitted for Brittany noted her “dedication to the entire center is shown in how she manages many different things all at once” and excels in all she does even as she handles the responsibilities of several positions during a staffing shortage. “Brittany is very precise in her work and wants to set an example for the team that she is helping to develop and lead,” the nomination says. “Brittany puts the welfare of the (dispatch) center…above her own. Brittany never sees herself as deserving of any awards, only her team.”

The Roswell Police Departments Wellness Unit is proud to introduce Sergeant Randy Rodriquez.

Sergeant Rodriquez has served in law enforcement for 12 years and brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and specialized training to the Peer Support Team.

Throughout his career, he has served in a variety of assignments, including Patrol (2014-2019), the Chaves County Metro Narcotics Task Force and as a Homeland Security Investigations Task Force Officer (2019-2023), Criminal Investigations Division Detective (2023-2024), and currently serves as a Sergeant, supervising both the School Resource Officer (SRO) Unit and Crime Reduction Team.

In addition to his supervisory responsibilities, Sergeant Rodriquez served on the Roswell SWAT Team for seven years as a SWAT Sniper and holds both Basic and Advanced Sniper certifications. He is also a licensed FAA Part 107 Drone Pilot and has received specialized training in tactical drone operations, tactical medicine, undercover narcotics investigations, confidential informant management, use of force, and advanced law enforcement leadership.

His certifications include Field Training Officer (FTO), General Instructor, Homeland Security Investigations Task Force Officer, Tactical Medic (FLETC), FBI-LEEDA leadership training, Basic and Advanced School Resource Officer (NASRO), Advanced Peer Support, TruNarc, AR Armorer, Taser, PepperBall, CS Gas, CPR, and numerous other specialized law enforcement certifications.
With experience spanning patrol, narcotics investigations, federal task force operations, criminal investigations, tactical operations, supervision, and school safety, Sergeant Rodriquez brings a unique perspective and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by first responders.

When asked why he wanted to be a member of the peer support team this was his response:
"I wanted to become a member of the Peer Support Team because I believe it is important for law enforcement officers to have someone they can trust and rely on during difficult times. Throughout our careers, we are exposed to traumatic incidents, high-stress situations, and personal challenges that can have a lasting impact on our emotional and mental well-being.
Law enforcement is a profession that demands resilience, strength, and sacrifice. However, even the strongest officers can face moments of stress, anxiety, grief, or uncertainty. I believe no officer should have to navigate those challenges alone. By serving on the Peer Support Team, I hope to help create an environment where seeking support is viewed as a sign of strength rather than weakness.
My goal is to listen without judgment, provide guidance when appropriate, and help connect officers with additional resources if needed. I want to contribute to a culture of trust, wellness, and camaraderie within the department, ensuring that our officers feel supported not only professionally but personally as well. Being able to give back to the men and women who dedicate their lives to serving others is both an honor and a responsibility that I take seriously."

Have you ever wondered what a "moment to reset" looks like for a police officer on shift?
It might be a few quiet minutes in a patrol unit after a difficult call, a deep breath before answering the radio again, or a moment to gather your thoughts before heading to the next call for service.
Just as athletes need recovery time between workouts, first responders need time to recover between calls. These small moments help officers stay focused and be ready for the next person who needs them.
Recovery doesn't have to be long to be important. Sometimes a few minutes can make all the difference in the middle of a busy shift.
