If you do not have a Part D stand alone plan or it included in your part C Medicare Advantage plan, you will face lifetime penalties at enrollment. Avoid penalties later by signing up for a low cost plan NOW between Oct 15-Dec 7.

Please do NOT assume you want that low cost Advantage plan until you understand the pros and cons of both. In 5 yrs when you are diagnosed with that serious illness and want to go to “that other facility” for an opinion or care, you find out that is not an option. Please do one thing this fall between Oct 15-Dec 7 to possibly save yourself hundreds if not thousands of dollars: check your Part D plan on http://Medicare.gov. If you are on a Medigap Medicare Supplement plan A-N, during your birthday month, you may look at changing carriers to reduce your rates if you live in a birthday rule state. There are NO changes* to benefits. Only reduction in premiums. Curious? Call me 916-458-1905

Are you working and have employer group insurance? Do they have more than 20 full time employees? You do not need to sign up for Medicare.

You will get a letter from your employer showing you’ve had coverage to avoid life time penalties. You have to show this since you turned 65…. So if you are 80 and have 10 employers from 65-80, you have to get letters from each one.
