When you’ve been surrounded by people who feed off your insecurity, guarding is a brilliant survival strategy.

For ages, hypervigilance was my default. I had spent my innocent years being torn down, undermined, and held back by people who supposedly loved me. My growing confidence, potential social, athletic and educational success threatened them.

Their version of “love” wanted to keep me small, dim, and compliant because they feared losing control.

Instead of complying I built a fortress.

When genuine safety, support, and love finally appeared in my life, I couldn't fully receive them.

My heart was numb, my body tense, and I lived in my head.

My intellect knew the environment had changed, but my energy was still running defense.

Does that ever happen to you?

Instead of being present in the moment, do you find yourself projecting past betrayals onto current relationships?

Unconsciously falling into old contracting patterns?

Contiunued from Monday and Wedneday

I had forgiven my mother long before she transitioned.

We had reconciled and healed our relationship, but my body and emotions were still holding onto the armor.

My energy was still operating from self-protection.

I finally realized that to truly receive, I first needed to build an unshakeable trust in the universe.

I also needed to honor the wisdom I had cultivated as an adult: I could instantly read energy and recognize who was safe to open up to.

I was no longer a helpless child trapped in an unpredictable household.

Through awareness, the old dissociation habit started dissolving.

My energy became spacious, my body relaxed.

Instead of bracing for an invasion I felt secure.

For so long I'd struggled to navigate around an obstacle I couldn't even grasp. Clearing it brought freedom.

When you no longer have to expend energy to keep the world out, you open an extraordinary capacity to let life in.

Peace isn't an intellectual concept; it becomes a physical reality.

Your heart opens, confidence returns, and you profoundly trust your ability to welcome love, prosperity, and authentic connection without losing yourself.

A Moment of Self-Reflection:
- Take a moment to check in with your body.
- Is there an area in your life where you're working hard to invite in love, prosperity, or deeper connection, yet sensing a wall holding you back?
- What are your emotions trying to protect you from?

To dissolve old protective patterns you have to feel safe enough to put down the armor.

If you're feeling drawn to healing these blocks at the root so you can safely open to receive, I invite you to explore Foundations Sessions. You don't have to go it alone.

In person sessions available in Aspen through September 11, remote sessions available worldwide.

Continued from Monday's post...

When I was eleven and my body started changing, my mom made me lift my shirt in the middle of the living room—in front of my brother—to inspect whether I needed a training bra.

When I started menstruating, she wouldn't give me my own box of pads.

Instead, I had to report to her each time so she could dole them out.

To avoid that humiliation, I concocted my own makeshift pads from toilet paper.

Naturally, they leaked and stained.

To keep from having to deal with her, I hid my soiled underwear deep inside a drawer of an old dollhouse in the back of my closet.

I came home from school one day to find her dangling those panties from her index finger.

She had gone into my room, dug through my closet, and found them.

"I have a bone to pick with you," she threatened.

I was a good kid.

I gave her no reason to distrust me.

Yet, she constantly snooped through my drawers and wastebaskets, and read my diaries.

Once, while loading the washer, she picked up a pair of my underwear, examined the discharge, and accused me of "having my times with boys"—with my dad and brother sitting next to me at the table.

I didn't even understand what that meant, but I was mortified.

Even though we had plenty of shampoo and running water, she restricted me to washing my hair only once a week and forbade me from shaving my legs.

After my classmates commented on my greasy bangs and spider legs, I shampooed and shaved anyway.

When she noticed, she raged an inferno.

Her version of "love" repelled me.

To protect myself from her rage and icky invasions of my body and personal space, I built a fortress.

I became hypervigilant, guarded, constantly on alert for whatever wackiness was coming at me.

My system adopted one primary rule: Shut down, brace yourself, keep that crazy sh*t out at all costs.

No wonder I struggled to open up to receiving later in life.

Healing is messy sometimes.

Parts of this piece aren't pretty. But moving through ugliness and getting your life back is so worth it.

If you want abundance or real connection, you have to let them in.

For a long time, I was terrible at receiving.

I've never talked publicly about this before. It touches on some raw childhood experiences around boundary and privacy invasions. I'm sharing it to offer hope and healing to the many who have difficulty receiving.

I was straightening up the house one morning after mentally preparing for a presentation I was scheduled to give.

I wanted to deliver a fantastic talk, but more than that, I wanted to genuinely connect with people.

Yet every time I imagined looking into the audience, I felt a familiar grab in my chest—an unconscious instinct to keep a wall up.

Mid-dusting, an 'aha" hit me with visceral clarity.

My mind drifted back to when I was five years old.

My mom stayed home with us and she was lying on the couch watching soaps.

She had hurt her toe and was convinced she had developed gangrene.

She made me smell her toe to determine whether it was rotten.

I remember feeling deeply disgusted. Completely mortified.

The final part of ML's beautiful account (part 3 of 3):

"Jane's work is incredibly powerful, and her energy is both encouraging and calming. I feel so blessed to have met such an intuitive soul—someone who has walked this path ahead of me and knows how to gently shepherd and support me as I continue to grow.
I feel incredibly lucky to have her as part of my support team. After our session, I felt lighter, empowered, and more confident in my work. I was also excited to have a new, relatable way to connect with one of my spirit guides.

Most importantly, the heaviness I had been carrying began to lift because I finally understood the dynamics underneath it.

Jane helped me make sense of areas where I had been stuck and take another step toward becoming more fully connected to my authentic self.

I'm deeply grateful for her guidance and the space she holds for this kind of healing."
It's an incredible honor and privilege to work with such intelligent, heart-centered individuals as ML.

Continuing ML's story from Monday (part 2 of 3):

"...That realization has made it much easier for me to communicate with this family member without confusing their emotions with my own. The realizations allowed me to truly forgive and understand them.

Jane also recognized strengths in me that I had been struggling to see for myself and reminded me of the support available to us from the other side. She has a beautiful ability to help you feel difficult emotions rather than avoid them, so you can begin to understand and heal them.

Through our session, I began to release some of the judgment I had been placing on myself and look at my experiences through a lens of greater love and compassion.

At one point, we talked about what it means to be a "good person," to be a hero, and why I had such a difficult time allowing myself to be seen that way. Her supportive affirmations and exploration of the fears underneath those beliefs helped me understand where my feelings of unworthiness came from, and begin to let them go.

She even received an impression of what one of my spirit guides looked like. It was surprising, but also resonated with me in a way that was deeply meaningful."

I'm so honored by the thoughtful care that my client ML put into writing this lovely, comprehensive account of her experience that I'd like to share it with you (part 1 of 3):
"I first met Jane at an energy healing workshop she led, and I was immediately amazed by her warmth, compassion, and intuitive ability. She created such a safe, nonjudgmental space and helped each participant work through and untangle their feelings in a truly impactful way.

I knew I trusted her, so I eventually made a one-on-one appointment. I didn't know exactly how to verbalize what I wanted to work on, but it didn't matter. Jane's energy helped me tune into some painful areas I hadn't even realized were affecting me. I initially thought what I was feeling was simply stress from work and family, but she sensed a deeper sadness.

That opened the door to something I hadn't planned to address, but that had actually been weighing heavily on me.

Jane helped me recognize when something was truly my own desire versus something I was trying to be because of the pressures and expectations of the world. She saw me, encouraged me, and gave me permission to be strong, to be seen, and to fully step into myself.

Before our session, I had been struggling with hurt, empathy, and mixed feelings toward a family member. Jane helped me understand how much of what I was experiencing was connected to my empathic nature. We explored deeper ancestral patterns and the pressures I had been carrying, which helped me learn how to separate my own feelings and beliefs from those I was sensing in others."

That’s what lies beyond the shadows.
An unarmored heart.

You don't have to spend the rest of your life managing fallout from old stories.
