🚨 Healthcare Preparedness Program Cuts Put Healthcare Coalitions at Risk 🚨

A new article highlights a growing concern: Healthcare Coalitions the backbone of coordinated emergency response remain at risk of being eliminated.(https://www.domesticpreparedness.com/articles/the-real-cost-of-cutting-public-health-preparedness/)

Coalitions connect hospitals, EMS, public health, and emergency management to ensure communities can respond effectively during disasters. From managing patient surge to sharing critical information, resources and assets their value is undeniable yet their funding stability is uncertain.

Key take aways from the article:
-Preparedness funding may seem invisible when everything is working but its absence will be painfully clear in a crisis.

-Cuts or instability in programs like the Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP) don’t just impact budgets they threaten years of relationship-building, training, and system coordination that cannot be quickly rebuilt once lost.

As we’ve learned from COVID-19 and other emergencies, strong, connected systems save lives. Weakening healthcare coalitions now increases the risk of leaving communities vulnerable when the next threat emerges.

🚑 Region 3 MCI Medical Response Trailers 🚑

The Region 3 Healthcare Coalition is proud to announce that our two newly revamped Regional Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) Medical Response Trailers will be fully operational and ready for deployment beginning July 2026.

These trailers serve as a critical regional asset, supporting prehospital providers and healthcare partners during both emergent incidents, such as mass casualty events, natural disasters, and large-scale emergencies and non-emergent situations, including planned community events, training exercises, and other healthcare initiatives.

What are the MCI Medical Response Trailers?
Our MCI trailers are mobile medical supply units equipped with a generator, climate control (air conditioning and heat), interior and exterior lighting, and essential medical equipment and resources to assist with:

• Rapid patient triage, movement, and treatment
• Surge capacity support for local healthcare systems
• On-site medical response during large-scale incidents
• Medical supply support for multi-agency operations

Each trailer has been enhanced to better meet the evolving needs of our region—allowing for faster, safer deployment, improved organization of supplies, and increased readiness across a wide range of scenarios.

The Region 3 Healthcare Coalition remains committed to strengthening regional preparedness and supporting our partners when it matters most.

For more information on capabilities or to request deployment, please contact the Region 3 Healthcare Coalition office.
