Question: Why do we see skulls and things that are Dark on the alter of a Vodou work?

Answer: It is not that we are sitting around casting spells.

Things work very different then that for us.

See, we do not cast spells, we are a conduit of ancient forces of nature. We can not simply cast them.

We make a request and if this ancient force says so, than it is so!

We make a request and if pressure falls upon someone then they have done much wrong.

They have been out of step with nature!

And so that’s how the spirit approaches, to bring balance to earth.

Interesting how ALL of the images of this nature are in the Capitalistic nations.

Capitalism demonizes personal power. There is no more powerful person than someone who can conjure nature.

You think these fires, waters and winds are just happening. People think that they created these weathers. They did not. A human can not, and will not kill nature. She is wise and old and has been through thousands of opportunities humans have had at loving earth.

These images are not Vodou images, they are a mirror of capitalists own fears.

They lie to you, see that home, and baby, and job, and food will never be. It is an illusion of safety.

How can you ever feel safe if you are not a Vodou, if you are disconnected with Earth.

The only way they can sell you this safety is to remove the great Mother. Demonize her and bring a dark cloak over her beautiful and terrifying face.

She is the faceless spirit and what you see in her is inside of you.

Basically that it is.

My new interview series will be coming out on Spiritual Teachers Voodoo Podcast.

She arrived in New Orleans at 39 years old. No fanfare. No following. Just a woman from Meridian, Mississippi, who had quietly decided that her life was about to become something else entirely.
By 1970, she had opened her first occult shop in the French Quarter — the Witch's Workshop on St. Philip Street — where she sold oils, floor washes, spell kits, and dried bats' hearts, because, as she once told a journalist, "it's important to sell the whole bat so people know it's real." Authenticity was everything to her.
But Mary Oneida Toups was not content with a shop. She was building something larger.
On February 2, 1972 — in the American South, in an era when witchcraft was still widely feared, mocked, or condemned — she walked into the Louisiana Secretary of State's office and chartered the Religious Order of Witchcraft, the first witchcraft organization to be officially recognized as a legal religious institution in the state of Louisiana. No disguise. No apology. Just paperwork, a seal, and a woman who had decided the world needed to catch up with her.
She gave talks at luncheons. She wrote letters to newspapers defending her faith. She published her only book, Magick High and Low, in 1975 — a work that eventually found its way into university collections and earned praise from scholars of religion and the occult. She was not a performance. She was a foundation.
Mary Oneida Toups died in September 1981. She was 53. Her grave has never been found. Most of the Order's archives were swallowed by Hurricane Katrina's floodwaters. What survived was a single oil portrait — pulled from eleven feet of water in Biloxi, untouched, eerily pristine, as if even the storm knew better than to erase her completely.
Lineages are complicated things. They pass through imperfect hands. They get lost, diminished, and sometimes — if someone says yes at the right moment — they are carried forward again.
In 2017, I was asked to carry this one.
I said yes before I fully understood the weight of it. I said yes because some callings don't wait for you to feel ready. Some paths don't ask for your confidence. They only ask for your commitment.
Mary Oneida Toups didn't wait for the world's permission to build something sacred. Neither will I.
Some women don't just make history. They make room — for everyone who comes after.

What It Means to Be a Vodou Priestess
By Priestess Shoshana with Spiritual Teachers Voodoo

To be a Vodou Priestess is not a profession.
It is a vow. A way of being. A devotion that echoes across lifetimes.

I did not choose this path—it was chosen for me. It began in dreams, in disasters, in mysterious callings I could not ignore. And over time, I was trained not only by elders and spirits but by fire—by loss, by sacrifice, by love.

At Spiritual Teachers Voodoo, we say: "We are not new. We are returning." This path is ancient, and we walk it with purpose. Here is what it means to truly carry this mantle:

This is ancient work. Sacred work. Real work.

We are not new—we are returning.
Enter the temple. Remember who you are.

I was able to pull out some of the message from the Misa:

The best part of our lives was when we believed in magic.

The false part of our life is when we lost our magic.

We used to go out in the rain.

When we could get in the water and feel the rocks under our feet.

Our family and friends lost there magic.

It is not our money or our religion, or our politics that will bring the balance back.

Stop what you are fighting for and start believing in Magic.

When you light your candle, When you fully believe in Magic, you will bring back balance to the earth.

Magic is the balancing of Earth, Air, Fire and Water.

The Magus!

We are sick, people used to pray and feel love for spirit, in times like these where the sickness is across every continent the most powerful Medicean is magic.

Magic is the connection of focus with intention with words.

Our future is not created yet. Our power comes from creation. Belief creates.

Place a glass of water out, light your candles and pray.

Believe in your magic.

When you light your candle, you don’t fight your battles, you cast your spells.

Stop fighting for something, start creating with magic the most powerful thing.

Our life can be enslaved by demonizing our most powerful gift. Without belief, without magic, without the pursuit of freedom and happiness. We are left with nothing and it is a sick time.

To build, to create, to cast is the most powerful thing we can do.

Finding self is one of the greatest quests to make and the purpose of life. However, it is not guaranteed.

We come back to the same scenarios over and over again until we learn who we are.

Karma is a cycle. To fully break karma you must know who you are.

Our greatest mission is to know self. And it begins with cleaning.

Clearing away the old beliefs, the old programming, the old ways.

True voodoo is the dedication to finding self.

With time, training, focus, meditation, prayer, ceremony, self becomes more and more awake.

These are parables that I cannot tell you. They are to be discovered. We have a mission to help people discover themselves.

That is my purpose. To help you realize who you are.

Somewhere between the roots and the stars, ancient herbs still whisper their secrets…

In Vodou and ancestral traditions, plants were never seen as ordinary. They are guardians, messengers, and keepers of power. When prepared with sacred intention, their energy can cleanse, protect, and awaken forces long forgotten.

These are not remedies of the modern world — they are recipes of the unseen, carried through generations of spiritual hands.

The knowledge is hidden in plain sight…
On my website and in my books, the gates are opened to those who are ready.
