What do you see, when you see an American flag?
Think of the warriors who have worn Ol’ Glory on their shoulder, charging into automatic gunfire. Think of a casket draped in the red, white, and blue. Think of the child holding a mini-flag along a hometown parade route. It is one of the most powerful symbols in the world, the symbol of liberty and justice for all.
Think about a military memorial service. Standing in formation with some of the greatest men and women who ever tread American soil. The sergeant major calling a name at the final roll call, and the somber reply that the fallen soldier was no longer with us. The flag whipping in the wind. The sniffles in the ranks. Can you see it?
The anthem plays at a sporting event, and you can see grown men well up as they stare at the flag, hand over heart. They stare at the red and white stripes, the stars on a field of blue, and think about the hope it represents. The sacrifices it has witnessed.
The American flag belongs to the farmers up before dawn, the teachers who give a damn, the bankers who take a chance on the underdog, the firefighters and police who race toward chaos.
It belongs to the new parents down to their last dime who still buy a box of cookies from the Girl Scout at the door, hoping their own daughter is granted the same kindness someday. It belongs to a grandpa who sat at a kitchen table on a respirator at the end of a life spent securing a future for his kids and their kids… and their kids, who he would never meet.
It belongs to the pilgrims who crossed an ocean, and to the great-grandparents who signed the ledger at Ellis Island. Our flag represents those dreamers, those risk takers.
This Flag Day, when you see her on a porch, a sleeve, or folded into a triangle behind glass, remember what she stands for. Not a perfect country. But an idea worth giving everything to defend.
We’re honored to have so many Americans on our team whose leadership, work ethic, and commitment to excellence embodies the ideals represented by Ol' Glory. Happy Flag Day! 🇺🇸
