Healing hands for Hayleigh

Healing hands for Hayleigh Hayleigh was diagnosed with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on 11/2/2022. We thank God everyday for His healing hands.
๐ŸŽ—๏ธ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป Hayleigh turned 3 in May 2022.

After a hard fought battle with many setbacks & challenges, she rang the bell 1/10/2025. In July 2022, she began running random fevers with no other symptoms & no one else in the home being sick. They would last 3-4 days & go away with Tylenol or Motrin. This would happen every 2-3 weeks. Her pediatrician saw her several times and we were always told is was a virus, cutting teeth, etc. She was see

n October 26, 2022 by a new pediatrician & we were told the same thing. That doctor said if her fevers hadn't stopped by the following week, to contact her. Which we did, on October 31, & I pressed for the doctor to draw blood. That blood test was a simple finger prick which showed enough to make the doctor contact hemotology & oncology @ Brenner Childrens Hospital in Winston Salem, NC. Halloween night, October 31, 2022, Hayleigh was sent to Brenner's for direct admission. After many tests, we learned she has ALL (acute lymphoblastic leukemia). This page was created for updates & education.

โš ๏ธ Little bit of a long read but interested to hear YOUR stories โš ๏ธ

Some of you know all that we faced & battled during Hayleighโ€™s 2.5 years of treatment. There were many bumps in the road, many setbacks, and many questions that ended in โ€œyouโ€™ve got to be kiddingโ€.

I recall one inpatient stay where a resident doctor came and told us they needed to insert another PICC line. Imagine my surprise when I heard this as Hayleigh had never had a PICC line. I stated this to that resident and she assured me that she had, it was noted in her chart, and her colleagues had agreed another one was needed. This even made me second guess myself and even call Brian to make sure I wasnโ€™t trippin.

I said all of that to say this. I developed some emotional PTSD during that 2.5 years. My therapist has confirmed it. ๐Ÿ˜‚
I attended an appt with my Mom today. By the time it was over, we were told the appt wasnโ€™t needed. The right hand had no idea what the left hand was doing. So we wasted an hour for absolutely nothing. While all this was coming about, I realized I have developed little-no tolerance for medical BS.

This is one thing that isnโ€™t talked about when it comes to childhood cancer & treatments. Both the patient & the family go through ALOT & it doesnโ€™t go away when the treatments stop.

๐ŸŽ—๏ธ To my fellow cancer families, what are some things you feel youโ€™ve developed going through the treatments? ๐ŸŽ—๏ธ
