Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day is October 13th. It is recognized that 30% of early-stage breast cancers eventually metastasize (spread to parts of the body away from the breast). This day is intended to drive awareness to the need for more research about metastatic disease.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Almost everyone is aware of someone whose life has been touched by breast cancer. During October, we look to:

· Support people diagnosed with breast cancer

· Educate people about breast cancer risk factors

· Remind everyone about the importance of regular screening, beginning at age 40 or earlier if your personal risk for breast cancer is higher

Early detection saves lives. It is important to be screened regularly for breast cancer.

Peninsula Imaging provides the gold standard in screening mammography – 3D. We also offer breast ultrasound and breast MRI which may benefit breast cancer detection in women with dense breast tissue.

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.

• It is estimated that 313,780 new cases of prostate cancer are expected to be diagnosed in 2025 in the United States.
• Incidence rates have been increasing, due to advance state diagnosis; however, with early detection, the 5-year survival rate for prostate cancer diagnosed in its earliest stage is 99%.

As with most cancers, early diagnosis is important in treatment options and positive survival rates. Prostate cancer often has no early symptoms. Through effective screening options, the disease is often detected before it spreads; therefore, survival rates are good for this type of cancer.

Peninsula Imaging has received the American College of Radiology Prostate Cancer MRI Designation. They also have advanced software which is utilized to assist with clinical diagnosis and surgical planning.

Consult with your physician about your prostate screening options.

National Men’s Health Month was established to increase awareness and encourage preventive health care among men. It can help prevent serious illnesses like heart disease and cancer, but also lead to a longer, healthier life. Overall, men generally live 5 years less than women and are at a higher risk of heart disease than women. Additionally, only 50 percent of men schedule annual check-ups. Schedule your annual check-up now! When you do, talk with your physician to see if you are a candidate for any of these health screenings available at Peninsula Imaging – prostate MRI, low-dose CT lung cancer screening, abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), cardiac calcium scoring and DEXA scan. Be proactive and take control of your health!
