The Pandemic
Let me start this by saying I originally chalked all this up to propaganda b.s.
There's no way something could change the way we live forever... right?
The truth is much different.
THE BAD
As humans we like to defer responsibility. That is what is happening with this virus. People my age are "unphased" by the virus. We think because it won't hurt us, we shouldn't be taking precautions.
"Failing to plan is planning to fail"
We are the most mobile, social age group. Meaning, we are most likely to carry this virus.
While having the virus might not be so bad it is the second and third order consequences that will haunt those who do not take this seriously.
I would argue that most people reading this have someone they know and love who is older or immunocompromised.
These people are at risk. Serious risk. The risk is not now. The risk continues to increase in severity as hospital beds fill up and ventilators are taken.
A month into this, the risk is exponentially increased when you break your leg and the hospital doesn't have room for non COVID patients.
To realize the severity of what can happen, changes your view on how our society is currently reacting.
You will either contribute to helping get rid of this problem by social distancing and quarantine or contribute to the widespread contagion which will take 100,000s of lives.
THE GOOD
Yes, that was grim. It needs to be.
Although, the reality of this situation, alike anything, is that there is a beautiful duality and a lot of good.
You can finally take that break you've been craving.
The pollution in China and Italy is clearing up in a matter of days.
We are realizing that we can utilize online platforms and get the same amount, if not more, work done.
We are remembering who is important to us.
And introverts are happy as ever that they have a month long excuse to not be in social settings.
