"There are over 1500 graves at the current Vancouver Barracks Post Cemetery, of which 210 are inscribed simply, 'Unknown'."
IN 2015, while living in Vancouver, WA, I remember feeling like I wanted to visit the Veterans cemetery in West Vancouver, WA. I kept feeling a tugging towards it. I wasn't in that area of the city, until dusk. I stopped to get gas near the cemetery, and then felt that tugging again to GO. I drove over, and what I felt is something that I have never felt before then. I'm an ex military wife, and I've seen the heartache of knowing someone who was killed at war. I have friends who have lost their spouses, brothers, friends, etc.
Never, until this day, have I seen grave markers that just say Unknown or Unknown Soldier. I was surrounded by them. My heart ached immediately!
I can feel the feelings of others, and this was overwhelming. I felt those soldiers there! Like they were next to me, unseen...
The pain the families must have gone through, not ever fully having complete closure, must have been difficult. These men and maybe women too (idk!) gave all! They gave all!! They fought for their freedoms, for their country, and for their families. They fought for our freedoms, for our country, and for our families.
I would like to honor all of the unknown soldiers with this photo, and of course all of the known! Please remember those who gave all this memorial dayā¤ļø I love this land!~Misti Love
