My name is Mario Hernandez and this is my story.

In 1995, I was diagnosed with diabetes. In February 2018 I ended up in the hospital for a month. I was in kidney failure and needed to start dialysis immediately. My kidneys were functioning at 7%.

It’s been a rocky road. I have good days and bad days. Being on dialysis has taught me so much. I could have given up but I didn’t. The Lord gave me the strength. I made up my mind that I want to live for my kids and grandkids. I had to change my way of living. I lost 68 pounds, exercise and live a healthy life as much as I can.

Today I was given the thumbs from my doctor for transplant. My goal now is to find a living kidney donor. I’ve worked hard to get to this point and I hope anyone who is willing to come forward to be my donor, to know that I will value this gift forever.
