Some health concerns are easy to miss because they don’t always come with obvious warning signs.

For senior men, conditions like high blood pressure, sleep apnea, hearing loss, skin changes, and ongoing changes in energy or strength can develop gradually – and may be mistaken for a normal part of aging.

Men’s Health Month is a good reminder to pay attention to changes, stay current on checkups, and talk with your provider before symptoms begin affecting daily life.

You don’t have to wait until something feels serious to ask questions. Preventive care can help identify concerns earlier and support long-term health, independence, and quality of life.

For many veterans, strength means pushing through difficult experiences and carrying heavy burdens. But real strength is also checking in on yourself and taking action when something feels off.

A PTSD screening is free and confidential. While not a diagnosis, a screening can be an important first step toward support and recovery.

If you’ve been struggling, don’t wait. Start with this five-question PTSD self-screening: https://www.ptsd.va.gov/understand/awareness/screening_day.asp

Men’s Health Month is a reminder that health is about more than checkups, screenings, and physical care.

For senior men, staying connected can play an important role in overall well-being. Strong social connections can help reduce isolation, support mental health, encourage healthy routines, and create a stronger sense of purpose.

Whether it’s joining a walking group, trying a new hobby, attending a community event, or simply making time to connect with others, small steps toward community can make an important difference.

Starting a conversation about prostate health is a great way to catch concerns early and take an active role in your health. Knowing what to ask can help you feel more informed and confident at your next annual visit.

If you’re a senior man, consider asking your provider:
• Are my urinary habits normal for my age?
• What prostate health changes should I watch for?
• Are there lifestyle changes that could help support my prostate health?
• When should I call you about new or changing symptoms?
• How often should we check in on this?
