We need fat to live so load up on olive oil, avocado oil, or coconut oil. Whole food fats include avocados, salmon, eggs, olives, and nuts.
Just avoid refined vegetable oils such as corn, canola, soybean, cottonseed, and safflower oil as these oils can cause inflammation. Gone are the days of fat free snacks. Replace those pretzels with a handful of nuts and see the difference! Your body will thank you.

Don’t stress over “if it fits my macros” and instead ask yourself if what you are about to eat is nutrient dense. Whole fruits and vegetables are packed with micronutrients that your body needs to produce energy and burn fat. As a bonus, these foods have a self limiting effect, meaning it is highly unlikely to overeat and thus gain weight!
Sometimes your key to weight loss is not cutting calories but increasing your vegetable consumption.
Take advantage of the upcoming summer season and all the fresh produce. Hit your local farmers market and indulge. As the temperature rises, eat a salad, it will actually cool you down!
Just remember, keep it colorful!

Almost half of all Americans (~200 million people) are living with elevated blood sugar, putting them at increased risk for diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, dementia and other health issues. Hemoglobin A1c is a measurement of your average blood sugar level over the last 3 months. Ideal hbA1c is between 4% and 5% with 5.7-6.4% indicating pre-diabetes and above 6.4% being diabetes. Replacing carbohydrates in your diet with mono- and polyunsaturated fats from olives, olive oil, avocados, and nuts can greatly improve your blood sugar and overall health.
In fact for every 5% caloric increase in these fats (~100 calories or 1 tbsp of olive oil), hbA1c lowered by that magic 0.1%!
Instead of a sandwich for lunch today, try a large salad with sliced avocado and drenched in olive oil. 🥑🥗

What if you could get the results from 20-30 minutes of steady state cardio in just 4 minutes?! Well you can, just start incorporating some high intensity interval training into your workout routine. A tabata set is a type of exercise where you exert yourself to the fullest possible intensity you can manage for 20 seconds then rest for 10 seconds and repeat for 8 rounds. In that 4 minutes (it’s brutal, but it’s over quick), your cardiovascular system will become more robust, your body temperature and calorie burn shoots through the roof and stays elevated for some time after, your lactate threshold will increase (helping with mood and anxiety), and here’s the kicker, HIIT is one of the best ways to increase mitochondrial biogenesis!
Your mitochondria are tiny bacteria that live inside our cells and produce energy that we use to live. The health and quantity of our mitochondria directly impact our own health with many believing that dysfunctional mitochondria may be causal in aging and chronic disease. It may be your toxic load! Our bodies will hold onto fat when exposed to stressors or negative environments and we are living in an increasingly toxic world. From plastics (even BPA free), air pollution, Teflon cookware, “fragrances” in scented candles and air fresheners, to the 1,000’s of food additives and chemicals that enter our body daily, it’s amazing what our bodies must filter.
But how does our body protect us from these harsh chemicals?
