Today, I am so happy to open the doors to The Keeper's Table, a new Black Oak Magick publication devoted to recipes, heritage, family memory, foodways, hearth wisdom, and the stories that live on through kitchens and generations.

This is not only a place for recipes. It is a place for remembrance. For the dishes people carried across oceans, made through hardship, served with love, and passed down by heart. It is a place for family stories, practical kitchen knowledge, old ways of feeding people well, and the quiet kind of magick that lives in care, ritual, and the keeping of a home.

Its motto is:
Bring What You Remember. Take Something Worth Keeping.

Some recipes are written down carefully. Others survive because someone remembered a handful of this, a little more of that, the right smell, the right texture, or the way Grandma’s hands moved without ever measuring.

And sometimes, what we inherit is not a recipe at all.

It is the kitchen where everyone gathered. The dish that appeared whenever someone needed feeding. The story told every time a certain food was made. The chipped bowl that somehow mattered. The flavors carried from one country to another, changed by necessity, memory, and whatever could be found once a family began again.

That is part of why I set this Table.

I wanted a place for the things that can so easily disappear when nobody stops to ask, write them down, make them again, or tell the story attached to them.

Not simply recipes, but food as memory, heritage, care, survival, hospitality, and love.

Some of what belongs here has been preserved perfectly. Some of it has not.

I think the imperfectly remembered things deserve keeping, too.

When I choose a stone, I do not start with what it is supposed to mean.

I start with the stone itself.

What is it?

What does the surface look like?

How is the color distributed?

Is the pattern natural to the material?

Is there damage, filling, dye, coating, or another treatment I should know about?

What can I learn about where it came from?

And, perhaps most simply:

Would I want to keep this piece myself?

The symbolic and metaphysical traditions associated with a stone matter to me, but they come after the material itself.

A beautiful story cannot make poor quality disappear.

A popular correspondence cannot turn one mineral into another.

And a stone does not become more meaningful because someone attached a long list of promises to it.

I would rather offer a piece because it has character, integrity, and something worth noticing.

Then we can talk about its history, folklore, symbolism, and the meanings people have carried with it.

That is part of the philosophy behind Stone & Bough.

The stone comes first.

Some things are too tender to announce all at once.

They arrive like a remembered recipe, a handwritten note tucked into a drawer, the scent of something familiar rising from a warm kitchen when you least expect it. They carry names, places, stories, and the quiet work of love from one set of hands to another.

For a long time, I have wanted to make space for that kind of remembering.

Something new is coming to Black Oak Magick on Tuesday, September 1. It has been built with memory, nourishment, heritage, and the kinds of stories that linger long after the plates are cleared.

If you have ever believed that recipes can be heirlooms, that kitchens can keep history, and that ordinary acts of making and feeding can carry a little magick of their own, stay close.

Something new has been growing beneath the Black Oak. 🌿

On September 1, a new branch opens its doors.

It grew from family kitchens, inherited stories, recipes remembered by heart, food passed from one generation to another, and my belief that some of the most powerful magick happens in the ordinary ways we care for the people we love.

The Keeper’s Table is almost ready.

Recipes. Heritage. Food history. Family memory. Kitchen lore. Hearth magick.

And a place at the table for all of it.

Why are Black Oak Magick ritual candles unscented?

Because the candle should not decide what your ritual smells like.

A working may already include incense, herbs, oils, flowers, food offerings, smoke, perfume, or simply the natural scent of the room around you.

Adding another fragrance can compete with everything else.

There is also a practical reason: not everyone tolerates scented products well.

So our ritual candles are deliberately left unscented.

The candle brings flame, light, atmosphere, and a place to focus intention.

What surrounds that flame is up to you.

Sometimes restraint creates more room for meaning.

Some parts of a spiritual practice are allowed to remain private.

Not because they are shameful.
Not because they are forbidden.
Not because secrecy somehow makes them more powerful.

But because not everything sacred needs an audience.

An altar does not have to be photographed to be real.
A prayer does not have to be shared to matter.
A ritual does not become more meaningful because it was posted.
A moment of connection does not need outside validation to be true.

There is value in privacy.

There is value in intimacy.

There is value in letting some things belong only to you.

In a world that encourages us to turn every meaningful experience into content, it is worth remembering that some things are diminished by constant exposure.

Not everything has to be explained.
Not everything has to be displayed.
Not everything has to be made public.

Some things can simply be held.

There are Full Moons, and then there are nights when the Earth lays its shadow across the Moon.

On August 27, a partial lunar eclipse rises in Pisces, bringing with it themes of intuition, revelation, release, shadow work, and spiritual discernment.

Eclipses have long been regarded as thresholds, moments when the ordinary pattern of the sky is interrupted, and what has been hidden seems to move closer to the surface.

Pisces brings dreams, emotion, psychic sensitivity, imagination, and mystery. Opposite Virgo, it also asks us to balance intuition with discernment, spirituality with practicality, and feeling with what we can actually see and verify.

This is not simply a Moon for calling things toward us. It is a Moon for listening, divining, releasing, reflecting, and paying attention to what we may already know but have been reluctant to name.

and when it is simply what you want to be true?

That distinction can become especially difficult when the answer matters deeply to us. Hope, fear, longing, expectation, and even anxiety can all become loud enough to sound like knowing.

This entry looks at some of the ways we can examine what we are receiving, question our own assumptions, and practice discernment without dismissing intuition altogether.

Happy National Dog Day to the companions who walk beside us, guard our homes, interrupt our worst moods, insist that we notice the world around us, and somehow make themselves part of the rhythm of a household.

There is something deeply moving about being trusted by an animal.

To the dogs beside us now, the ones who came before, and the ones we still carry with us in memory:

You leave pawprints in places much deeper than the floor.
