Up A Notch Abilities is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to support at our Inclusive Creative Studio in South Bay San Diego.

🩵Our Creative Studio is a dynamic space where adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities explore, create, and shine. We need kind, energetic souls to help us guide art projects, support hands-on learning, and keep the good vibes flowing!

Every creative skill starts with learning. 💛

In today’s sewing class, we had a real-life sewing moment.

The tote bag straps were sewn onto the wrong sides, so we slowed down, removed the stitches, and learned how to correct the project together.

And honestly? That’s part of the process.

Sewing isn’t about perfection. It’s about creativity, patience, problem-solving, and building confidence one stitch at a time.

Our sewing classes are designed to be supportive, beginner friendly, and welcoming for individuals of all abilities. Whether you’re brand new to sewing or looking to build your skills, we’re here to learn and create together.

One of the things I love most about being a DSP is that we get to participate alongside the individuals we support. 💛

Today that meant hopping on the treadmill right next to Aniyah during her workout at the YMCA.

This work is so much more than supervision or caregiving. It’s connection, encouragement, community, shared experiences, and helping people build confidence while growing together in everyday life.

Every day looks a little different, and that’s part of what makes this work so meaningful.

Creativity + technology + a little bit of laser magic ✨

Our upcoming Intro to Laser Engraving Class will give participants the opportunity to explore the basics of laser engraving in a fun, hands-on, and supportive environment.

From learning the computer setup process to watching designs come to life, this class is all about creativity, innovation, and building confidence through new skills.

And yes… the safety glasses definitely make everyone look cooler 😎

✨ Meet Aniyah Hilson of Aesthetic Crafty Diva ✨

This month’s featured artist for Art Without Limits is more than an artist—she’s a creator, entrepreneur, and someone who brings joy and creativity into everything she does 💛

From personal training at the YMCA to crafting and painting her pineapple jewelry at Up a Notch Abilities, spending the day with Aniyah was a beautiful reminder that creativity has no limits.

🎨 Her artwork will be on display throughout the month of May, and we invite you to come meet her in person at our exhibition night!
