Herbs and how they were literally always there, decades before I knew I'd be doing what I do now:
🌿
When I was 5 or 6, I loved re-watching an episode from the original Pokemon series where a woman was grinding herbal medicine for Ash's Pokemon (can someone tell me I didn't hallucinate this??). I loved the sound of the mortar and pestle.

Flash forward to a famers market in high school, and I felt absolutely enthralled by an Herbal tea tent. Never before hearing of 'Raspberry leaf' let alone it's uses, I felt so compelled to purchase some (probably the first instance of my life where a plant chose to work with me.) I loved the taste, and that was about it at the time.
🌿
Flash forward to studying Cognitive Science at UCSD, when my menstrual cycles were averaging 60 days and I was googling and picking herbs on the way to class to make into period starting tea (totally clueless). I even went as far as to make a parsley leaf bolus, not knowing I wasnt super far off (Parsley family herbs go hard with women's issues)
🌿
Flash forward to 2019, where I successfully tapered off antipsychotic medication (prescribed for anxiety 👀) after a hospitalization, using Meditation and Valerian root.

July will be 1 year since I made the choice of releasing my career in UX and graphic design and going full-throttle into herbal medicine. At the time it felt random, but looking back it was decades in the making! Im excited to spend the rest of 2020 working through my courses and apprenticeship, with the goal of becoming a Clinical Herbalist and Holistic Mental Health professional.
Raspberry Leaf is an astringent herb that 'tones' the mucosal lining of the GI tract. I use it all the time now in my dog's herbal formula for diarrhea. It is better known for its affinity for the uterus, and is a popular women's herb to prepare for childbirth.
