We did it!

AB2497 failed to pass today during a vote on the Assembly floor. Dry needling by PTs will not move forward in CA.

Thank you, everyone, for your tremendous efforts in opposing dry needling in CA and continuing to protect our patients by maintaining the highest training standards to perform any kind of needle medicine.

Thank you for your support of acupuncture — our entire community truly appreciates you. We respectfully urge Assemblymember (NAME) to vote NO on AB 2497. While the language around skin pe*******on and filiform needle use was removed, it has simply been replaced with electrode-needling , which, under California law, is acupuncture. The concern remains the same.

To recap, AB 2497 is moving to the Assembly Appropriations Committee. This is a fiscal committee, not a policy committee, and it does not hold public discussions like that past committee did.

Our priority now is to gather opposition letters from schools and licensed acupuncturists in Contra Costa and Alameda counties, especially in the following cities: Oakland, Berkeley, Richmond, San Pablo, Piedmont, El Cerrito, Pinole, Albany, and Hercules. ⭐️ But ANYONE (including the general public) can sign + send a letter! ⭐️

It is imperative that we take action on this bill, right away!!

we have to respectfully say we disagree — dry needling IS acupuncture 📍

This is not the first time the acupuncture profession has been misrepresented, but this is a chance for us to take the narrative into our own hands.

Comment on the article and share your take on what the article gets wrong — the real impact of dry needling on patients, how dry needling IS acupuncture, and how our lobbying efforts are to keep needles out of the hands of practitioners who are ‘certified’ with just 80 hours of learning!

UPDATE: WHY THIS AMENDMENT MATTERS 🚨 this language clearly contradicts existing statute that states “acupuncture is the insertion of a filiform needle.” This bill seeks to practice acupuncture without calling it acupuncture and dos further damage by trying to distance the practice of inserting needles from acupuncture + Traditional Chinese Medicine education.

Here is a simple script for calling an assembly member:
“I strongly oppose a B2497 because dry needling is acupuncture and should be regulated as such under existing California laws to ensure public safety”

WE NEED YOU IN SACRAMENTO ON TUESDAY 🗣️  AB2497 will be read by the B&P Committee on April 21st at 9am. The public (YOU) will have the opportunity to approach the microphone, state your name and that you OPPOSE!
