Micro-boundaries I live by as an empath who used to absorb everything:

1. I remind myself that someone else’s emotions are not my responsibility.
2. I don’t make fixing someone’s bad day my job.
3. I take a pause before offering help.
4. I don’t answer every text immediately.
5. I leave conversations that leave me feeling drained.
6. I ask myself, “Is this mine to carry?”
7. I let people have their feelings without taking them on as my own.

Caring deeply doesn’t require carrying everything.

The advice I brushed off in my 20s and now wish I had lived by sooner:

1. Not everyone has to like you.
2. It’s okay to disappoint people.
3. Just because you can handle it doesn’t mean it’s yours to carry.
4. Being needed is not the same as being loved.
5. A boundary does not push the right people away.
6. You do not have to over-explain your needs to make them valid.
7. Resentment is often a sign that something needs to change.
