Gym etiquette rant: I have lived the gym life starting from my 1st set of Weider sand-filled plastic weight set in my basement in 1982, to my Dad's chain of Florida gyms where he also produced and hosted the Central Florida BB championship, to 80s high school football and wrestling coaches' strength programs, to my mom being VP of another chain of women-only "health spas/studios" to the CU Boulder varsity track team strength program, to the US Navy wrestling team in P'Cola Florida, to training with a SEAL team, to becoming a personal trainer my self and then a 15 year fitness modeling career where I was the spokesmodel for international brands such as Men's Health, Beach Body, Hoist Fitness, Perfect Fitness, Nature's Sunshine, Sports Authority, Road Runner Sports, Gold's Gym and more. I have seen it all literally. But nothing is more disturbing than what I see in gyms today all across the country as a pilot >>> Lazy slackbags sitting on the equipment doing zero work while staring into their phones with their ear buds in. They are just taking up space and sometimes work spaces as they stage multiple workout areas at once in a public gym, even pre staging dumbbells kettlebells etc while they just sit there scrolling unaware, completely self absorbed. Then you have the 'influencers' making content in a public gym oh say at 9AM rush hour...
I will just say that when OGs like the late great Greg Plitt and my self were making our content decades ago, we were either doing it in private gyms, OUTDOORS, or before or after-hours.
Bounce around. Discover muscle-confusion, change up your order and complacent routine. Share the public space. UNPLUG, and gain awareness of those around you. Stop hogging multiple pieces of equipment or spaces. Your workout is not more important than any one elses. Just ask the man him self Joey Swoll
