Hold a few red lipsticks next to copper hair and you'll usually see one of two problems. The blue ones can look harsh against warm skin. The brown ones go muddy.

Wrong test. Almost nobody’s brows match their hair. Not brunettes, not blondes, not the faces you have decided look correct. Brows sit a shade or two off on nearly every head there is. Match yours exactly and you read less natural, not more.

Thirty seconds before the call connects. No mirror, no time, one hand already on the trackpad. You swipe it on blind and hope.

Most lipstick fails that test because most lipstick needs an edge, and an edge needs a mirror, and a mirror needs you to have started earlier than you did. A wash has no edge to get wrong. That is the whole trick.

Red lipstick has looked harsh on you and you were told it was the shade. Try a softer red. Try a berry. Try the eyes instead.

It was rarely the color. It was the finish. A flat dry matte reads like a line drawn on, and no amount of shade hunting fixes a finish problem.

Redhead Rouge is semi matte. Start there before you give up on red again.

That's what a sheer wash is for. It lets your lip tone come through and adds a little more of it, with vitamin E and jojoba oil in the formula.
