The Smallest Prayer
My grandmother once told me,
the Creator does not measure a spirit by its size.
Even the smallest life may carry
a message too great for thunder.
So I learned to honor quiet things—
the kindness given without witness,
the hope that survives a hard season,
the prayer spoken only to the earth.
Our elders knew that joy is also medicine.
It keeps the heart from becoming stone
and reminds us, after every sorrow,
that life still asks to be welcomed.
I carry that teaching wherever I go:
what is gentle can still change the world.
