Raise your hand if you’ve ever needed an inspirational lift. I didn’t realize how much I needed one until recently. Meeting Diane Von Ferstenberg and hearing her speak today in a room full of women was the lift that I needed, as I find myself at a crossroad in life, full of change and unknowns different from any others that I’ve encounter before. DVF speaks of being a “woman in charge”, being fully accountable for yourself, loving and knowing yourself fully and being your own best friend. Her message is one of empowerment but she also encourages that we share our vulnerabilities. I so greatly appreciate her authenticity. It is refreshing.
Anyone else experience an inspirational lift lately? (Or are in need of one?)

For some, self care can feel exhausting, like a chore that doesn’t end. Keeping daily practices then usually fall to the wayside. But if you think about self care as tending to a garden, then it starts to make sense and feels more approachable.

Keeping a garden lush and thriving takes work. There are daily duties, like watering. Some days need more watering than others. Some days call for pruning. Some days call for fertilizer. If you neglect the garden, it’ll become overrun with weeds or dry out and die off.

(You see where this metaphor is going, yea?)
Our minds and bodies are OUR garden. And for us to thrive, we must tend to ourselves every day.
This goes beyond brushing teeth. I’m talking about the “extra” we do for ourselves. Maybe it’s a deep breathing practice. Maybe it’s walk in nature. A self-foot rub. Weekly massage. Whatever!
The key is in mindset. Gardening (aka self care) can feel like an obligation and pain. OR it can be fun! Choose to enjoy your garden- being outside in nature, in the sun, or the rain, digging in soil and appreciating all that you grow. Choose to enjoy the time and care you invest in your health and in yourself. See self care as a gift that you give to you.
And who doesn’t like a good gift?
