16 years ago, I was enamored with this photo of Sarah Maclachlan, whose music I loved. The grace her in the yoga pose, Utthita Padanghustasana II, is forever imprinted in my mind. Having seen her at a concert way back when, possibly Lilith Fair, I was thrilled when Andre learned she was performing in the Bay Area just a couple of weeks ago. Here’s a snippet of the concert, just as graceful, perhaps even more so. 🎶 💐 ✨ one more concert is schedule for British Columbia in September!

Highlights from the Healdsburg Summer Retreat. A wonderful weekend with yogins who shared their love of yoga. So much joy beaming from everyone and within myself. The one lady shown in Sirsasana II (Headstand 2) is well into her 80's and just started in my Intro classes last year! She was not the only octogenarian at the retreat. The two brought much inspiration, joy, and light for the rest of us. From these newer practitioners to ones who've been in Iyengar Yoga for 2/3+ decades, we all shared space, maitri, karuna, and mudita. 🙏🏽🧘🏽‍♀️🥰

A lot is going on when practicing Iyengar Yoga that is hard to explain or show. I’m gonna try anyway... Here I am attempting to get into Uttanasana, the Standing Forward Bend pose. You can see that I am incrementally making my way down, working with my breath and abdomen, as well as my whole internal systems, to get all the way down. Yes, I feel my hamstrings say hello really loudly. So I try to work my quads more; then you see I’m encouraging my calves to contract and support me in the pose. I feel and adjust my toes, the soles of my feet. I’m releasing my ribs, my spine. Then, my grip, my mind. All of this took a minute and a half, before I went into Downward Facing Dog, for some relief. Sometimes, it can take more. Sometimes, I do more, sometimes less. Listening in to see what each moment is telling me, integrating my body, breath, and mind, bit by bit. Slowing down, so I can hear, I can feel. It’s a process. This is how I practice Iyengar Yoga. 🧘🏾‍♀️

A great explanation of “Sthira sukham asanam” — the yoga sutra that teaches us to hold your yoga poses for awhile and learn how to find the ease of the effort. The very core of Iyengar Yoga!

5 days of yoga with Abhijata, the granddaughter of BKS Iyengar. Made extra special with the Bf and practicing with dear friends. 🙏🏼 🙏🏼 🙏🏼 inspired. Amazed. Humbled. Energized. Light. Free. Pooped out… knots wrung out. Grateful to for organizing the conference! 🧘🏾‍♀️🤸🏾‍♂️🧘🏼🤸🏽‍♀️🧘🏽

When teaching a one-on-one session, I have to keep all the resources at the tip of my fingers so as to set up a session that addresses the student’s needs that day, that moment. I can get creative and use much of the therapeutic adjustments to their full extent. Grateful for the Iyengar Yoga teachers who’ve taught me everything I know. 🙏🏽
