Hello friends!
I’m not usually someone who shares personal things publicly, but I wanted to talk about something that honestly surprised me.
Two weeks ago, I started the Optavia metabolic reset program.
To be very clear: I had *a lot* of reservations about it. Packaged food, calorie restriction, “diet culture” vibes, it gave me flashbacks to early-2000s fad diets. I’ve spent years helping people move away from obsession with the scale and toward nourishment, strength, and sustainable health. I’ve worked hard to reject the kind of messaging that tells women we need to stay small, underfed, and disconnected from our bodies.
So when my partner started this program, I was skeptical.
But over the last two months, I watched him completely transform.
Many of you know he went through chemotherapy last year. Between the treatment, fatigue, inflammation, joint pain, and weight gain, his body had been through a lot. Watching his energy return has honestly been incredible. He’s back to martial arts training, his pain levels are dramatically lower, and he’s down about 33 pounds but more importantly, he *feels* like himself again.
That’s what got my attention.
Last year was also extremely stressful for me. Alongside supporting him, both of my parents experienced serious health crises, and my own health started slipping. My labs came back borderline pre-diabetic, my inflammatory markers were elevated, and the fatigue & brain fog were getting harder to ignore.
So I decided to try the program myself before judging it further.
And honestly? I’ve been pleasantly surprised.
Two weeks in:
• My mind feels clearer
• My focus is noticeably better
• My body feels less inflamed and achy
• I have more energy throughout the day
Yes, I’ve lost weight, but that’s not my main goal. I’m chasing energy, clarity, and better long term health. I want my labs out of the red. I want my body to feel supported again.
The food also wasn’t nearly as bad as I expected (season accordingly 😂). The cost ended up being far more reasonable than I imagined — about $18/day for 5 fuelings — and I still get to eat a regular meal daily.
I was also nervous about weighing food because it can feel very “diet culture,” but I was relieved to find the portions were actually more generous than I expected. The app has helped a lot too, especially with reminders to eat every few hours and recipe ideas when my ADHD brain gets overwhelmed trying to decide what to make.
I went into this with heavy bias, and I still believe every body and every person is different. But I also believe in being honest when something is helping me.
