Electrolytes are essential... but that doesn't mean everyone needs an electrolyte packet every day. 💧

Lately, it seems like everyone is adding electrolytes to their water. And while they can be incredibly helpful in the right situations, they're not a magic health supplement and may not be necessary for everyone.

So what are electrolytes?

Electrolytes are minerals that carry an electrical charge and help your body function properly. The main ones include:

⚡ Sodium
⚡ Potassium
⚡ Magnesium
⚡ Calcium

These minerals are essential for:

💧 Hydration
❤️ Heart function
💪 Muscle contractions
🧠 Nerve signaling
⚖️ Blood pressure regulation
🏃 Exercise performance and recovery

The good news?

Most people can get plenty of electrolytes through a balanced diet.

Some of my favorite food sources include:

🥑 Avocados
🍌 Bananas
🥬 Leafy greens
🥔 Potatoes
🥥 Coconut water
🧂 Mineral-rich foods and appropriate amounts of salt
🐟 Fish
🥛 Dairy products
🥜 Nuts and seeds

There are times when electrolyte supplementation can be beneficial such as prolonged exercise, excessive sweating, certain illnesses with vomiting or diarrhea, working in extreme heat, or for some medical conditions. In those situations, replacing lost fluids and electrolytes is important.

But for many healthy people eating a nutrient-dense diet and drinking enough fluids, expensive daily electrolyte products may not provide additional benefit.

As with so many things in health, more isn't always better.

The goal is to understand what your body needs.

🌿 If you're wondering whether electrolyte supplementation (or any supplement) is right for you, I'd love to help. Together, we'll create a personalized plan based on your health, lifestyle, and goals instead of the latest social media trend.

"Root-cause medicine" "Individualized care"

These are phrases I use often—but what do they actually mean?

To me, it means recognizing that two people with the same diagnosis may have completely different reasons for why they're experiencing it.

Take acne, for example.

One person may be struggling with hormonal imbalances.

Another may have underlying gut dysfunction.

Someone else may have nutrient deficiencies, chronic stress, blood sugar dysregulation, food sensitivities, or simply be using products that don't agree with their skin.

The symptom is the same...
The treatment shouldn't be.

That's why I don't believe in one-size-fits-all medicine.

I believe in taking the time to understand your story.

Your symptoms
Your health history
Your lifestyle
Your lab work
Your goals

Then we create a plan that's tailored specifically to you.

Sometimes that plan includes nutrition, sometimes targeted supplements, sometimes lifestyle changes, sometimes prescription medications or hormone therapy.

Often, it's a thoughtful combination of several approaches because my goal isn't simply to help you feel better for a few days.

It's to understand why your body is struggling and create the conditions for long-term healing and resilience.

Your symptoms aren't random, they're clues.

And when we listen to those clues instead of simply trying to silence them, we can begin to uncover the bigger picture.

🌿 If you're looking for healthcare that goes beyond managing symptoms and takes the time to understand the whole you, I'd love to partner with you. Have more questions? Book a consultation through the link in my bio, and we can review your health concerns and be sure that we are a good fit to work together to support your health for years to come.

What if improving your health didn't require an hour at the gym?

One of my favorite recommendations for patients is surprisingly simple:

🚶‍♀️ Take a 10-minute walk after each meal.

It's one of those habits that seems almost too easy, but the science behind it is impressive.

Walking after meals may help:

🩸 Support healthier blood sugar levels

⚡ Reduce the afternoon energy crash

🍽️ Aid digestion and support gut motility

❤️ Improve cardiovascular health

💪 Increase your daily movement without feeling overwhelming

😊 Boost mood and reduce stress

🏃 Help build consistency if you're just beginning your health journey

And here's my favorite part...

You don't have to be "fit" to start, you don't need expensive equipment, you don't need the perfect workout plan.

You just need to put on your shoes and take a walk.

Health isn't built by doing something extraordinary once.

It's built by doing ordinary things consistently.

If you're trying to exercise more but feel overwhelmed, don't start with perfection.

Start with 10 minutes.

Then let that habit grow.

Because those small choices add up to meaningful change over time.

This week, I challenge you to take one 10-minute walk after a meal each day. Notice how you feel - your energy, digestion, and mood might surprise you. And let me know how it goes!

☀️ Vitamin D: One of the most common deficiencies I see (even here in sunny Southern California)

Most people know vitamin D is important for bone health, but its role in the body goes far beyond that.

Vitamin D helps support:

☀️ A healthy immune system

🦴 Strong bones and muscles

🧠 Brain and cognitive health

😊 Mood and emotional well-being

💪 Muscle strength and recovery

⚖️ Hormone function

🔥 A healthy inflammatory response

❤️ Long-term cardiovascular health

"But I get plenty of sun..."

While our bodies are capable of making vitamin D from sunlight, it's not always that simple.

The amount you produce depends on many factors, including:
• Time of day
• Season
• Skin pigmentation
• Sunscreen use
• Age
• How much skin is exposed
• Time spent outdoors

Even if you live in Southern California, it can still be difficult to maintain optimal vitamin D levels year-round. That's why I frequently recommend lab testing, and when appropriate, supplementation, to help patients reach and maintain healthy levels.

One of the biggest mistakes I see is people guessing.

Too little vitamin D may leave you feeling less than your best, but more isn't always better either.

The goal isn't to take supplements because they're popular. It's to give your body what it actually needs.

As a naturopathic doctor, I use lab testing, your symptoms, and your overall health picture to determine whether vitamin D supplementation is appropriate and if so, what dose is right for you.

🌿 If you're struggling with fatigue, frequent illnesses, low mood, muscle weakness, or simply want to optimize your health, let's take the guesswork out of your vitamin D status. Message me for a consultation, and together we'll create a personalized plan based on your body's needs.

We live in a world that wants immediate results.

A pill for the pain.

An injection for the weight.

A medication for the symptom.

And to be clear, there are times when medications are absolutely appropriate, necessary, and life-changing. I prescribe medications when they're the right choice for my patients.

But here's the question I always come back to:

What happens after the symptom is quieter?

If the root cause is still there, your body is often still asking for help.

As a naturopathic doctor, my goal isn't simply to help you feel better this week.

It's to help you build a healthier body for years to come.

That means asking questions like:

🌿 Why is the inflammation there?

🌿 Why are your hormones changing the way they are?

🌿 Why is your gut struggling?

🌿 Why are you so exhausted?

🌿 What habits and daily choices will help your body function at its best?

Sometimes treatment includes medication.

Sometimes it includes targeted supplements.

Often, it includes nutrition, strength training, restorative sleep, stress management, and rebuilding the foundations that support your health.

Those things don't usually create overnight transformation.

But they create something even better:

Health that lasts.

Because while quick fixes can be valuable in the right situation, lasting wellness is built through the small, consistent choices you make every day—and by understanding what your body is trying to tell you, not just silencing the message.

✨ If you're ready to move beyond simply managing symptoms and want to uncover what's driving them, I'd love to help. Together, we'll create a personalized plan that addresses the root causes of your health concerns while building habits that support long-term wellness. Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) isn’t about turning back the clock. It’s about supporting your body through a natural transition.

For years, women were told to fear HRT.

Today, we have a much better understanding of the risks, benefits, and who may be an appropriate candidate. Current research supports that for many women, when started at the right time and prescribed thoughtfully, HRT can be a safe and effective option for managing menopausal symptoms and supporting long-term health.

But here’s what I want every woman to know...

HRT isn’t one-size-fits-all.
There isn’t a single hormone.
There isn’t a single dose.
There isn’t a single way to take it.

The “right” approach depends on you:
✨ Your symptoms
✨ Your age and hormone levels
✨ Your personal and family medical history
✨ Your goals
✨ Whether hormones are appropriate for you
✨ The type of hormone, dose, and route of administration that best fits your needs

As a naturopathic doctor, I view HRT as one tool, not the entire toolbox.

For some women, it can be life-changing.

For others, a different approach may be more appropriate.

No matter what, my goal is to create a personalized treatment plan that looks at the whole picture.

That includes nutrition, strength training, sleep, stress resilience, gut health, blood sugar balance, and lifestyle habits alongside thoughtful consideration of hormone therapy when it’s indicated.

Optimal health isn’t about choosing HRT or lifestyle.
It’s about finding the right combination of both for your body.

✨ If you’re navigating perimenopause or menopause and wondering whether hormone therapy could be right for you, I’d love to help you understand your options. Together, we’ll create a personalized, evidence-informed plan that supports your hormones, your long-term health, and your quality of life. Book a consultation through the link in my bio. 🤍

Your gut doesn't heal from a week of healthy meals.

And it usually doesn't become unhealthy from one pizza, either.

One of the biggest misconceptions I see is people expecting a week of "clean eating" or one month of probiotics to completely transform years of digestive symptoms.

The truth?

Your gut is constantly responding to what you do consistently.

🌿 The foods you eat most days.

💧 How well you stay hydrated.

😴 Whether you're getting enough restorative sleep.

🏋️ How often you move your body.

🧠 How you manage stress.

🍽️ Whether you're eating enough to nourish your body.

These habits create the environment your gut microbiome lives in.

While supplements can absolutely have a place (and I recommend them often when they're appropriate), they work best when they're supporting a healthy foundation.

That's also why there isn't a "one-size-fits-all" gut protocol.

Some people need support for SIBO.

Others need help healing the intestinal lining.

Some need to improve gut motility, while others benefit most from addressing stress, nutrition, or food sensitivities.

Your gut has its own story.

The goal isn't to find the one magic supplement.

The goal is to consistently create the conditions that allow your digestive system to heal.

Small choices repeated every day.

That's where lasting change happens. 🌿

✨ Save this post for the next time you're tempted to look for a quick fix instead of trusting the power of consistency.

Strength training has become one of the greatest forms of self-care in my life. 😊

It has been absolutely game-changing for my health - physically, mentally and emotionally. It provides what my body needs now and for decades to come.

Every time I lift, I’m investing in myself...

💪 Stronger muscles and bones
🩸 Better blood sugar balance
⚡ A healthier metabolism
🧠 Improved brain function and mental resilience
🌿 Better hormone health
🫀Long-term cardiovascular health
❤️ A more confident, capable and balanced version of myself

As a naturopathic doctor, I talk with my patients every day about optimizing their health. And one of the most impactful lifestyle changes I recommend (especially for women) is strength training.

It isn’t just about building muscle, it’s about building a body that’s resilient.

A body that can keep up with your kids, a body that ages well, a body that supports healthy hormones, insulin sensitivity, bone health, and helps you stay independent for years to come.

Some days I feel strong....
Some days I don’t.
But I always show up anyway.

Health isn’t built by one perfect workout or one perfect meal prepped weak.

It’s built by consistently choosing yourself, even when life is busy.

That’s why I lift.

Not to be smaller

To be stronger!

✨ What does movement give you beyond physical results? I’d love to hear in the comments.

Still bloated... even after eating “healthy?” 🌿

If you’re constantly dealing with:

• Bloating (especially after meals)
• Gas
• Abdominal pain or discomfort
• Constipation or diarrhea
• Feeling like food just “sits” in your stomach
• Food sensitivities
• Brain fog
• Fatigue after eating
..SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) could be one piece of the puzzle.

One of the biggest misconceptions about SIBO is that treatment is simply about getting rid of bacteria.

In reality, successful treatment often involves addressing why the overgrowth developed in the first place.

This is why my approach is individualized and typically happens in three phases:

🌿 Phase 1: Reduce the bacterial overgrowth
I use personalized herbal antimicrobial protocols based on your symptoms, health history, and treatment goals.

🌿 Phase 2: Restore healthy gut motility
For patients with constipation, this means supporting the migrating motor complex, the “housekeeping wave” that helps move food and bacteria through the small intestine between meals. Healthy gut-brain communication plays an important role in this process.

🌿 Phase 3: Heal and rebuild
Once the overgrowth has been addressed, we focus on reducing inflammation, healing the intestinal lining, restoring a healthy gut environment, and helping lower the risk of recurrence.

But, every patient is different.

That’s why I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all protocol. Your symptoms, health history, nutrition, stress, and underlying contributors all matter when creating a treatment plan.

If you’ve been diagnosed with SIBO, suspect you may have it, or you’ve already tried treatment but still struggle with bloating and digestive symptoms, there may be another path forward.

✨ DM me “SIBO” or click the link in my bio to schedule a consultation. Together, we’ll uncover what’s driving your symptoms and create a personalized plan to help you get your gut (and your life) back.
