This week I was honored to be invited to Té con Limón, a Latino Heritage Month celebration hosted by Senate President pro Tempore Monique Limón.
A few numbers stayed with me:
46% of Ventura County is Latinon
20% of local businesses are Hispanic-owned;
The messages from our leaders: Senate President pro Tempore Monique Limón reminded us to lean into each other. We each have a part to play, and we need to come together.
Representation in wellness matters because so many in our community have never seen themselves in these spaces.
Almost every time I lead a session, someone tells me theyd never tried yoga because they thought it wasn’t for them.
When the teacher looks like you, speaks your language, and understands your culture, that belief starts to change.
People feel safe enough to rest, to breathe, and to stay.
Thats what were building: wellness spaces where our community sees itself reflected and leans into each other.
We are bridging the gap in wellness by leading culturally affirming spaces es español enfocados en nuestro bienestar para nuestra comunidad latina.
Gracias to Senate President pro Tempore Monique Limón for the invitation and for celebrating the businesses building this community.
