The application period for the 2026 Class of 2008 Scholarship for Community Service closed on Friday. This year's application asked applicants to name the greatest problem facing our world and how they personally contribute to improving the problem. Applicants' responses cited mental health, lack of community, insufficient access to healthcare, and lack of access to food as some of the greatest problems. Their solutions? Kindness. Volunteerism. Intentionality. Awareness. Education..

The Class of 2008 Scholarship was funded in 2018 to annually recognize a graduating Ballston Spa High School senior who demonstrates a strong commitment and motivation to improving the quality of life for people in their school, community, and world at large through their community service activities.

On June 16, 2018, the Ballston Spa High School Class of 2008 celebrated its 10 year reunion with a reception at The Factory in Ballston Spa. 73 alumni and their guests attended the event where alumni enjoyed reconnecting, good food and drinks, a 2000's inspired playlist, a photo booth, and a raffle supported by area businesses. Proceeds from the reunion were contributed to the Class of 2008 Scholarship for Community Involvement. For more information, visit: www.bshs2008.com

Earlier this month, we awarded the Class of 2008 Scholarship for Community Involvement to Julia McKinley for her exceptional service to Ballston Spa and the world at large. Ms. McKinley was recognized at yesterday's commencement as Salutatorian and will attend Stephens Institute of Technology in the fall to pursue a career in Environmental Engineering.

The Class of 2008 Scholarship is an annual, cash award given to a graduating Ballston Spa High School Senior who demonstrates a strong commitment and motivation to improve the quality of life for people in their school, community, and world at large through their community service activities. The scholarship was created as part of the Class of 2008's 10-year reunion celebration and was endowed for ten years by alumni.
