A perfect sunny day for volunteering! Honzo Haven’s 108-step staircase has awakened from its winter slumber once again this year.
On Sunday, our volunteer group gathered under a clear blue sky! Our mission this time was to remove the covers from the 108-step staircase—a true symbol of Honzo Haven.
As soon as we stepped into the great outdoors, we were greeted by crisp air, warm sunshine, and the chirping of birds. Just being able to work in an environment like this was enough to lift our spirits
As for the w**ds… There were surprisingly few!
To be honest, before we started, I was a little worried that “the area around the stairs might be overgrown with w**ds…” But thanks to this year’s long, bitterly cold winter, w**d growth was more suppressed than usual. This made for a much easier working environment, and things went smoothly right from the start!
Alright, time to start removing the covers!
First, we carefully removed the plastic wrap that had been wrapped around the handrails to protect the wood. Then, we wiped down the heavy stair covers thoroughly with rags as we took them off one by one. Some spots were a little damp, but that’s all part of the charm. The 108 steps, having weathered the long winter, stood tall and proud once the covers were removed. They looked so reliable!
It’s the start of the season when the stairs at Honzo Haven will once again welcome many visitors 🌿

🌞快晴のボランティア日和！Honzo Havenの108階段、今年も冬眠から目覚めました。
日曜日、青空の下でボランティアグループが集合！ 今回のミッションは、Honzo Havenのシンボルである108階段のカバー外しです。
大自然の中に一歩踏み入れると、澄んだ空気と気持ちのいい太陽の光、そして鳥のさえずりが出迎えてくれました。🍀
雑草は…意外と少なかった！
実は作業前、「階段まわりが雑草でぼうぼうになってるのでは…」とちょっぴり心配していたんです。でも、今年の冬は長くて極寒だったおかげか、雑草の成長がいつもより抑えられていました。おかげで作業がしやすい環境で、スタートから順調！
いざ、カバー外し作業スタート！
まずは、手すりの木を守るために巻かれていたラップを丁寧に取り外すところから。そして、重い階段のカバーを雑巾でしっかり拭きながら、一枚一枚外していきます。
場所によっては少し濡れている箇所もありましたが、それもご愛嬌。長い冬をしっかり耐え抜いた108階段は、カバーが外れるとどんと堂々と君臨していました。なんだか頼もしい！
Honzo Havenの階段が、また多くの人を迎えてくれる季節の始まりです🌿
