✨how harmonizing your habits supports health✨
dis-ease, according to ayurveda, is caused by “going against” our natural rhythms. dis-ease not only materializes on a physical level, but also more subtle levels. ayurveda would say that the subtle layer is where dis-ease begins. but often we remain unaware of any imbalance until the physical symptoms begin to manifest and create challenge in our daily lives.
what are these natural rhythms? there are many; some would say, even endless, rhythms, cycles and patterns. but the most obvious ones are the ones we experience daily: sunrise and sunset, feeling hunger, and the energy of waking up or settling into rest at night. the world around us and within us is composed of patterns within patterns (fractals, if you’re into maths). we experience daily cycles, seasonal cycles, hormonal cycles, lunar and solar cycles, and more. we can use these cycles, or patterns, to guide us towards health instead of away from it. because these cycles and patterns arise naturally in nature, and because we ARE nature, we have a framework with which to work that supports our vitality. it’s when we go against these natural rhythms that we begin to create dis-ease.
modern technology is amazing on so many levels, but in many ways it continues to disconnect us from the truth of who, or what, we are…nature! we have access to light 24/7 which takes a toll on our sleep cycles. we can grab almost any food, from anywhere in the world, anytime of year, but we may be unable to digest it well because our digestive fire is in a different season than what we are consuming. and how often do we ignore signs of fatigue or depletion in favor of getting more work done or scrolling on our devices?
