Our client’s goal was to labor as long as possible at home before going to the hospital. That is EXACTLY what she did last night! When they got to the hospital around midnight, she was already far enough along that they took her straight up and her husband and Doula Brandie still had to check in. On the elevator, Brandie could sense how nervous this first-time dad was, so she asked him if he was okay. He responded, “It’s like your best friend is sick and there is nothing you can do.” We totally understand this feeling and that is another major part of our job. We help the husbands (partners & support persons) know what to do and when! We do not take their place; we help them become MORE involved.

Just folding a little laundry during an overnight postpartum shift last night! Postpartum doulas help parents adjust to their new “normal”. We help get caught up with some household chores, organize the nursery, watch and feed baby so Mom can rest or shower, help with meal planning, etc. It takes a village and we love to help! Getting that extra time or sleep really makes a difference!

I am so proud of my client! She had her beautiful baby girl on August 16th at 2:20 P.M.! The one thing about labor that never changes is that it is unpredictable. There might be some similarities, but every one is different. This Mom got to experience spontaneous labor for the first time, walking the halls, every position possible, and more. We all prayed for her and the baby. “God may be late, but He is always on time.”

After a few days of prodromal labor, contractions finally came and kept coming! Mom has been doing all the things! Mom and Dad are very excited to meet their precious one! Prayers for Mom and her TOLAC!

Welcome to the world, Cooper Graye! He was born August 13th at 11:13 P.M.! He weighed 9 lbs 2.1 oz and was 21.5 inches long! Mom did amazing and listened to her gut. Doula Brandie supported them and took pictures. After a few little nudges, Cooper still wanted to come on his own time. And boy, did he! What a journey!

Baby boy is getting his eviction notice today! Doula Brandie is with her client waiting for induction. Mom and Dad are excited to meet their precious little boy!
