Is your website costing you clients without you even knowing it? 👀

Here's a hard truth: most small businesses, startups, and nonprofit organizations lose visitors within the first 8 seconds — not because their work isn't great, but because their website fails to communicate it fast enough.

At JQ Design Labs, we work with businesses and organizations across the USA to fix exactly that. These are the 5 things we address on every single project:

✔️ Your above-the-fold message is too clever — clarity always wins
✔️ No clear call-to-action — or five competing ones
✔️ Mobile experience is broken or ignored
✔️ Slow load times that bleed conversions
✔️ No social proof or trust signals to close the deal

Whether you're a founder scaling your startup, a small business owner trying to compete online, or a nonprofit looking to grow your donor and volunteer base — your website should be working as hard as you do.

Someone finds your organization from a conference. They visit your site. They hit the contact form, and then... nothing happens.”

This is a real conversation with an organization who had a website that they thought only need to change their design. Our conversation showed the importance of reviewing a site’s architecture. How leads come through the funnel is what can turn them into loyal customers.

What’s the main gap you see in your funnel?👇

When Live Dog Dead Lion came to us, they presented a name with centuries of weight behind it.

The phrase comes from the Book of Ecclesiastes: "a living dog is better than a dead lion." Inspired by the philosophy of resilience, the brand name highlights that the potential to make an impact is rooted in being alive.

Live Dog Dead Lion is a music production brand and creative library building original scores and soundscapes for film, television, and trailers. What they needed was a visual identity that represented the character and edge of their sound.

We built them a mark rooted in that mythology. A small dog, standing on top of a dead lion. Eyes crossed out. Bold, high-contrast, and graphic enough to hold its own at any scale.

Your brand is being evaluated before you even get the click. 👀

Through AI tools, social media, and even word of mouth, buyers are forming opinions about your business before they ever land on your website. That means your brand needs to work harder than ever.

But with hundreds of agencies in LA alone, how do you find the one that actually gets it?

We broke it down for you:

✅ How to define your goals before you start searching

✅ What realistic branding costs look like in 2026

✅ The red flags that tell you to walk away

✅ How to compare agencies like a founder should.

This guide is for founders, marketing leads, and growing teams who are serious about building a brand that scales.

How can you bring more clarity to your brand and fix your AI legibility problem?

Often, brands believe that adding more information, posting more and using tons of different tools will help them show up more on AI Searches, but this isn’t the right solution

We partnered with Black Public Media — a nonprofit that has championed Black storytelling for over 45 years — to build a digital home worthy of their mission.

From a full website redesign to a custom analytics framework, every decision was made to amplify their reach and deepen their impact:

🎨 Bold, high-contrast UI/UX designed to advocate for the brands mission 📊 A Google Analytics framework tracking real KPIs — donations, creator pathways, program engagement 📈 62% increase in site traffic after launch The data became a tool to communicate impact to funders and unlock new opportunities for Black creators.

This is what it looks like when design and strategy serve a mission. 🖤

I’ve reviewed a lot of nonprofit websites this year.

Different missions, sizes, and teams.

The friction patterns are almost always the same.

Messaging that shifts depending on who wrote it. Visuals that no longer reflect the organization’s growth. Websites that inform but don’t guide anyone toward action.

Most leaders know something feels off. They just haven’t had a clear way to see exactly where.

That’s why we put together the Nonprofit Brand Clarity Assessment. It takes about 3 to 4 minutes, generates a clarity score, and shows you specifically where the gaps are across your messaging, visuals, and digital experience.

We’re opening a few reviews this month to walk organizations through their results personally.

If you’re curious where your organization stands, comment “Assess” below and I’ll send it over.

Esaiyo is building infrastructure for digital provenance — the technology that lets you know what a digital asset is, where it's been, and who's touched it.

Our job was to make sure their brand could carry that weight. We rebuilt their visual identity from the ground up, meaning logo, color system, investor materials, and a mobile prototype for a government agency use case, all designed to communicate credibility and technical clarity before a single word is read.

If you're building something serious in tech, your brand needs to match. We can help. Visit our website or message us to start working on your next project!

Your brand might be thriving in the real world — but online, it's struggling to be seen. Here's why.

AI systems now shape how your brand gets discovered, recommended, and remembered. But they work by reading the information available about you across the web. When that information is fragmented, inconsistent, or incomplete, AI can't build a clear picture of who you are — and your brand presence suffers for it.

This is what we call an AI legibility problem. And it's one of the biggest reasons brands feel powerful in person but invisible online.

In this video, we answer two questions every brand needs to think about right now:
✅ Why does my in-person brand feel so different from my online brand?
✅ What's actually causing that disconnect — and what's the fix?

Most nonprofit leaders don't fear building a website.

They fear making the wrong call, having everyone know it, and credibility inside the organization takes a hit.

Choosing a branding or web team can feel like a gamble when you don't know what questions to ask, don't know if their team matches your needs, and aren't sure if what they're promising will actually show up in the work.

So you either delay the decision, or you go with whoever seems most visually interesting and/or cheapest.

Six months later, you're stuck with a site that looks fine but doesn't function as promised.

Here's what I've learned working with mission-driven organizations:

The right team doesn't just ask about your goals. They ask about your audience. They talk about your stakeholders. They ask what action you want people to take. They ask what success looks like 12 months after launch, not 30 days. From there they build a roadmap.

A vendor wants the project. A partner wants the outcome.

Those are very different conversations.
