Most people come in for a massage because they’re hurting, stressed, tight, exhausted… or all of the above....
And while massage can absolutely help, there are a few things I genuinely wish more clients understood. 👇
1️⃣ One session usually won’t undo years of tension or pain patterns. Real change often happens through consistency over time.
2️⃣ Pressure isn’t everything. Going deeper isn’t always better—your nervous system and muscle guarding play a huge role in how your body responds. It's about finding the balance between therapeutic and pain management.
3️⃣ Communication matters. May I repeat, COMMUNICATION MATTERS! Telling us if something feels too intense, too light, sensitive, or relieving helps us adjust the session to your body.
4️⃣ Your daily habits matter more than one hour on the table. Posture, stress, sleep, movement, hydration, and repetitive activities all affect how you feel between sessions.
5️⃣ Pain is complex. Tight muscles are only one piece of the puzzle. Stress, injuries, inflammation, nervous system overload, and lifestyle can all contribute to discomfort.
6️⃣ Massage therapists never stop learning. We spend years (YEARS!!) continuing our education so we can better understand the body and help our clients more effectively.
Functional Massage Therapy isn’t a magic fix—but it can be an incredibly powerful tool when combined with consistency, communication, and good self-care habits. 🤍
