⭐️ Welcome to Physio Answers ⭐️

There’s so much advice online about pain, injuries and recovery… but it isn’t always easy to know what’s accurate.

That’s where Physio Answers comes in.

This is a new series from Plece Physio, where we’ll answer the everyday questions people ask about pain rehab and injury using clear, evidence-based advice that’s easy to understand and relevant to real life.

Whether you’re wondering…
🧊 Ice or heat?
🩻 Do I need a scan?
😴 Why do I wake up with back pain?
🧠 Can stress cause pain?
💪 Should I stretch before exercise?

…we’ll break it down into simple, practical information that you can actually use.

But we want this series to be driven by you.

👇 Pop your questions in the comments below, or send us a message, and we’ll create future Physio Answers posts based on the topics you’d like us to cover.

No question is too simple if you’ve wondered it, there’s a good chance someone else has too.

Let’s learn together and help more people move with confidence. 💙

Client Spotlight 💡 – Shared with Consent ✅

Alex came to me with a painful shoulder after an injury during butterfly pull-ups.

From day one, the focus was clear:
✔️ Understand the injury and his goals
✔️ Provide an accurate diagnosis + guidance on gym modifications
✔️ Build a detailed, personalised rehab plan to get him back to what he loves

We started with light, controlled loading to settle symptoms and restore movement. From there, we progressively loaded the shoulder into more meaningful, sport-specific positions.

As capacity improved, we introduced more dynamic work… building all the way back to explosive, overhead movements.

The clips show just a small snapshot of the work that went in 👇
Now, Alex is back to full function — moving overhead confidently and pain-free, including ballistic/kipping movements 💪

A great example of respecting the process, progressing with intent, and getting back stronger 🙌

🧠 What is pain?

Pain is your body’s way of protecting you, but it doesn’t always mean something is damaged.

Think of pain as an alarm system. When there’s a potential threat, your brain receives information from your body and decides whether to create pain to encourage you to slow down or change what you’re doing.

Sometimes that alarm works exactly as it should, like when you sprain your ankle. But other times, the alarm can become a little overprotective. Pain can continue even after tissues have healed, or it can feel worse during times of stress, poor sleep or inactivity.

That’s why pain is rarely just about the muscles, bones or joints. It’s influenced by many factors, including:
✔️ Previous injuries
✔️ Sleep
✔️ Stress
✔️ Activity levels
✔️ Overall health

Understanding your pain is often the first step towards overcoming it.

If pain is stopping you from doing the things you love, physiotherapy can help identify the cause, reduce symptoms and get you moving with confidence again. 💪🏼

Even our Plece Physio mascot knows that recovery starts with good sleep… 😴🐾

Woody, the official (and very sleepy) Plece Physio mascot takes his recovery seriously… even if it does involve napping in the most awkward positions! 🐶

Jokes aside, sleep is one of the most powerful tools we have for recovery. Whether you’re dealing with pain, recovering from an injury, or trying to improve your performance, getting enough quality sleep can make a real difference.

💙 During sleep, your body:
✨ Repairs muscles and tissues
✨ Reduces inflammation
✨ Supports your immune system
✨ Consolidates learning (including those rehab exercises you’ve been practising!)
✨ Helps regulate pain and recovery

Exercise, treatment and rehabilitation are all important, but don’t underestimate what happens while you’re asleep.

So tonight, take a leaf out of Woody’s book… prioritise your sleep. Your body will thank you for it.

💬 How many hours of sleep do you usually get each night?

Let’s talk steps!🚶‍♀️

Walking is one of the simplest and most effective ways to support your health.

Getting your daily steps in can help:

Walking can help:
💙 Boost your mood
🦴 Keep your joints moving
💪 Build strength and improve fitness
❤️ Support your heart health
😴 Improve your sleep
✨ Increase your energy

Remember, you don’t need to hit 10,000 steps every day to benefit. Research shows that increasing your daily movement, whatever your starting point this can make a real difference to your health.

If you’re recovering from an injury or living with persistent pain, walking can also be a valuable part of your rehabilitation when introduced at the right pace.

Small changes add up!

Your body was designed to move, and every step counts. Step by step, your body will thank you.

✨ Your muscles do far more than just help you move.

From getting out of bed in the morning to lifting your shopping, running after the kids or smashing a workout, your muscular system is working every second of the day.

Pain isn’t always caused by where you feel it. That’s why physiotherapy looks beyond the painful area to understand how your whole body is moving.

💬 If you’re struggling with aches, pains or an injury, don’t ignore what your body is trying to tell you.

🦴 Your skeleton is much more than just a framework.

Made up of over 200 bones, your skeletal system provides support, protects vital organs, stores essential minerals and works alongside your muscles to create movement.

Bones are living tissue, constantly adapting to the demands you place on them. Regular weight-bearing exercise and strength training help keep them strong, while prolonged inactivity can have the opposite effect.

Pain doesn’t always mean there’s something wrong with the bone itself.

As physiotherapists, we assess you as a whole—not just where it hurts—helping you move with confidence.

💬 Look after your skeleton today, and it’ll continue to support you for years to come.

Some days it’s about smashing your goals. Other days it’s about getting up and taking that first step. Both are worth celebrating.

Why is movement so important?

Every step matters. Regular movement can:
✨ Improve your mood and mental wellbeing
❤️ Support heart health and circulation
💪 Build and maintain muscle strength
🦴 Keep bones strong and joints mobile
⚖️ Improve balance and reduce the risk of falls
😴 Promote better sleep and boost energy levels
🌿 Reduce stiffness, aches, and pains

Remember, movement doesn’t have to be intense to make a difference. Whether it’s a walk, stretching, or simply getting up more often throughout the day, every bit of movement contributes to a healthier, stronger you.

Keep moving—your body will thank you. 🚶‍♀️💙
