As you dive into the science of HBOT, you’ll learn that not all chambers are created equal. Divided into two categories, hard and soft/mild chambers, the difference isn’t just the material that the chamber is built of but also the experience and results.
Pressurization: This is what makes HBOT so effective. Thanks to Boyle’s Law, as we increase the pressure of the chamber the gas volume decreases. This results in higher concentrated oxygen that can saturate the blood plasma. Hard chambers are able to pressurize at a higher atmospheric pressure which means higher concentration of oxygen than soft chambers.
Oxygen Delivery: We currently breathe 21% oxygen on Earth. Mild chambers get between 24-26% and hard chambers get 100%.
Chamber shells: The material used on the outside of the chamber directly affects the pressure and oxygen delivery. Acrylic and/or steel is obviously stronger material than canvas and can withstand the high pressure and oxygen volume. Because of this, the patient will enter and exit through a chamber door that gets sealed by an HBOT tech vs. a zipper the patient can open and close themselves in a soft chamber.
Location: Hard chambers are a must-have for most hospitals. With about 14 conditions covered by insurance, many hospitals can treat patients on-site with a medical prescription. Soft chambers also require a medical prescription and can be found at a wellness center or can be purchased for at-home use.
