🤍 6 months of Milk & Motion 🤍

Six months ago, Milk & Motion opened its doors, and we truly couldn’t have imagined all of the beautiful families, babies, and stories that would fill this space.

These past six months have been filled with feeding journeys that looked different for every family — the joyful moments, the tears, the questions, the tiny wins, the unexpected turns, and all the moments in between.

It has been such an honor to sit beside you during such a vulnerable and important season of life. Whether we met for one visit, worked together through a challenging feeding journey, or you’ve become a familiar face around here — thank you for trusting Milk & Motion. 🤍

Every family who walks through our doors has become part of the heart of this little clinic, and we are so grateful.

Here’s to six months of supporting, learning, encouraging, and celebrating you — exactly where you are in your feeding journey.

Happy 6 months, Milk & Motion.
We’re so grateful you’re here. 🫶

7 years ago - 8/3/2019.

I am often asked how I got started doing breastfeeding and bodywork. It’s a long story but 7 years ago I was in a terrible bike accident that left me with 2 broken arms, a concussion, torn labrum in my hip, and many other small injuries and road rash. I was a mom of a 3 year old at the time who I was unable to pick up for weeks.

I was lucky enough to find Arman Mohsenian at a surgical appointment who introduced me to his lovely wife Maile Mohsenian and Empire Therapy. It was there that I was introduced to primitive reflexes and manual therapy to help me recover - I remember laying on the table and telling Maile I wanted to do what she was doing! At Empire, I learned a new passion of how intuitive the body is! I began working with moms and babies and finished my education to become an IBCLC as well as continuing education in manual therapy techniques.

As terrible as that day was - I’m so grateful for the path I have found!

I still believe in the power of women in sports, I have learned so many life lessons throughout the years that have shaped me into who I am today. And, despite the injuries I’m still working toward being a lifelong athlete!

Former collegiate gymnast and novice cyclist and current runner!

Stepping - The cutest of reflexes?? 👣

Part of a newborn exam includes assessing primitive reflexes - automatic movement patterns that turn in to more sophisticated and intentional movements throughout infancy and childhood such as crawling and walking.

The stepping reflex is present from birth and usually fades within the first couple of months as babies begin developing more purposeful movement. While it may look like your baby is eager to take their first steps, it’s actually their amazing nervous system practicing the building blocks for movement.

These early reflexes are important for more than just motor development—they can also influence feeding. A baby’s ability to organize their body, coordinate movements, and respond to touch all plays a role in breastfeeding and bottle feeding. That’s one reason why, when feeding isn’t going as expected, we look at the whole baby—not just what’s happening at the mouth.

Every baby develops at their own pace, but understanding these early reflexes can help make sense of your little one’s movements and support their growth along the way. 💛

New sign thanks to my super talented hubby! He came to visit my office a couple weeks ago and got lost coming off the elevator so came up with a remedy! Per the expert it’s a mixed species of monkey pod, maple, walnut, red and white oak and poplar finish with his own house made hard wax oil. Also, handmade easel made from quarter sawn sycamore. Is beautiful!
