TWO BIG UPDATES!

ONE:
I have a meeting scheduled with DESE to discuss the bill proposal and the flaws with the school systems regarding IEPs and children with disabilities.

TWO:
I have a state representative that is setting up meetings with stakeholder groups that represent the Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities to work on strong language for the legislation.

Representative Matthew Overcast has said that he would sponsor my legislative proposal as a bill in the next session!!!

The educational landscape for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students presents unique challenges that must be addressed to ensure equitable access to quality education.

This summary advocates for:

🚨The enactment of a law mandating the inclusion of an Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) for DHH students as part of their educational evaluation process and as a supplement to their education.

🚨 Requiring a Deaf or Hard of Hearing diagnosis to be an automatic qualifier for an IEP without the need to prove an educational impact/delay.

🚨 Mandatory training for teachers to understand and know how to appropriately teach and use the expanded core curriculum because there is a shortage of deaf educators within our school districts.

By establishing this law, we can improve educational outcomes, promote inclusion, and ensure that DHH students receive the support they need.
