Fun fact about me: I absolutely love cold brew! Especially in the fall and winter. Cold brew is a simple coffee bean extraction process, simply place 80g or 1-1/2 cups of ground (mine are extra course but it's up to you how fine you ground your beans) coffee beans and 6-8 cups of cold, unfiltered water. Place in the fridge to steep for 12-24 hours. The longer you steep the stronger the brew!

Have you started harvesting late summer crops and don't know what to do with them? It's a great time to start fermenting some of your fruits and veggies for storage, and also optimal gut health! In my mixture I'm using a pink Himalayan salt at 3% salinity to make my fermenting brine. How do you like to make yours?

"Whatever your hands find to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom." Ecclesiastes 9:10

3 important jobs/recipes for making the transition into fall gardening:

1.) Make Water Soluble Calcium to feed your plants! 1 part crushed eggshells, (some like to toast theirs in a skillet on low), cover with ACV ensuring you leave room in your jar or container for the acid to bubble up, let it steep for 24-48 hours then dilute in water and feed!

2.) Make plant concentrate! If you are cutting down vegetation after a harvest (peppers, tomatoes, etc) chop them up and add to a bucket. Fill with water and add a small amount of compost if you have any, cover loosely and let it sit for 3-4 weeks. When it's finished, strain the dark liquid off of the plants, dilute and feed! It's a nutrient fence superfood

4.) Begin using up all your compost from the first half of the growing season to top dress plants. Start a new bucket for the second half of the growing season

As the summer winds down, it's time to take stock of the first half of the growing season. So many successes and a lot of room for improvement! A wise man once told me "when business is slow, you do the [little] things that need to be done" βœ… which includes taking time to enjoy the journey.

So today we'll be cutting back, clearing, and composting as part of our to prepare for the fall and winter season.
