The VA Golden Age Games lit up Tampa from June 27 to July 2. Each year, Veterans nominate a Coach of the Year, and this time, the spotlight shone on our very own JB Rec Therapist Sally Goldsborough! Team St. Louis has championed her for years, and this year, participants from across the country cast their ballots for Sally.

This year, Team St. Louis fielded 25 Veterans and two coaches (Goldsborough and RT Christina Brown) and came back with 58 medals and ribbons. Congratulations to all!

The Tampa games included 21 medal events. There are eight age groups
and three groups: ambulatory, visually impaired, and wheelchair. The minimum
age is 55. Sports include Air Rifle, Air Pistol, Badminton, Boccia, Bowling, Cycling
(recumbent and upright), Disc Golf, Golf, Horseshoes, Nine Ball (pool), Pickleball,
Power Walk, Powerlifting, Shuffleboard, Table Tennis, Track and Field events,
Beanbag Toss, Checkers, Chess, Dominoes.

If you are a VA St. Louis enrolled Veteran who is interested in participating
in next year’s games, contact your Primary care team through My HealtheVet
and ask for a Rec Therapy referral. The JB Rec Therapy team will contact
you to schedule an initial appointment. Congratulations to our participants!

As we start out , we celebrate the gathering of Veterans, Staff, and community partners to witness the unveiling of the new VA St. Louis Military Display Cases on the ground floor of Building 23 at JB.

Thanks to a partnership with and generous donations of uniforms and artifacts from Veteran patients, staff, and community members, our nation’s heroes are honored in a truly meaningful way.

The items on display are far more than objects behind glass. They are living history.
Every uniform and artifact, representing all branches of service, carries a story waiting to be discovered. Thanks to the MidAmerica Veterans Museum, these stories are preserved in Building 23 and shared online for people everywhere to experience. Each display case features a QR code, inviting
everyone to visit, scan, and dive deeper into these remarkable histories.

When you visit our JB campus, take a moment to see our vibrant displays that honor all branches of the military. You can help this tribute grow by donating uniform items or memorabilia. To donate, email [email protected] to request a donation form.
