What are you preparing for?

Everyone talks about manifestation. Very few people talk about stewardship. The hummingbirds don’t appear because I wished for them. They arrive because something was made ready to receive them.

The same is true in life. Healthy relationships, business opportunities, financial growth, peace, healing... Most of what we call “manifestation” is actually preparation meeting timing.

Life is the Altar.
The question isn’t what you’re trying to attract.

The question is: What are you becoming capable of holding when it arrives?

Every one of these calves is growing, and not one of them is worried about whether the calf beside it weighs more. Not one of them is questioning whether it’s behind. They’re simply doing what nature designed them to do: grow.

As humans, we make growth far more complicated. We compare our healing to someone else’s. Our business to someone else’s. Our marriage, our finances, our spiritual journey, our body, our life.

We look at someone else’s bloom and decide something must be wrong with our roots. But nature doesn’t work that way.

These calves aren’t finished yet, because they aren’t supposed to be finished yet. Their job right now is to grow. And maybe that’s your job too. Maybe your job right now is to build foundations, strengthen roots, and trust the process. The bloom gets the attention. The roots do the work.

The flowers don’t spend their days wondering if they’re late. They don’t compare themselves to what’s blooming across the field. They don’t force themselves to blossom before the season arrives.

They root. They prepare. They respond to the conditions they’re given. Then, when the time is right, they bloom.

Yet so many of us walk around carrying the belief that we’re behind. Behind in healing. Behind in business. Behind in motherhood. Behind in becoming who we’re meant to be.

Nature teaches something different. Life is the altar. Every season has purpose—even the ones where growth is happening beneath the surface where nobody can see it.

These flowers reminded me of something I think many of us need to hear: Nature never rushes what it’s becoming.

Don’t ever forget, the bloom isn’t the miracle. The preparation is. For weeks, maybe months, the plant has been gathering resources, growing roots, strengthening its foundation, and responding to the season it’s in. Then one day, what was happening beneath the surface becomes visible. And it seemed so “all of the sudden.”

We’re often so quick to judge ourselves for not being “there” yet. Whether it’s not healed enough, not successful enough, or not far enough along. But maybe you’re not behind. Maybe you’re in a season of rooting.

One of the core teachings of Life is the Altar is that everything is sacred—including the seasons that don’t look productive from the outside. The unseen work matters. The daily tending matters. The quiet maintenance matters.

Because nature teaches us that the season determines the strategy. You don’t demand blooms in spring before the roots are ready. You don’t harvest before the fruit has formed. Trust the season you’re in. Tend what is yours to tend. The bloom will come when it’s time.

The most productive thing I did today took 5 minutes. It wasn’t answering emails, building a business, working cattle, or folding laundry. It was just stepping outside and letting my nervous system catch up with my life.

As a rancher, a mother of four, a business owner, and an energy practitioner, I’ve learned something the hard way: You cannot build a peaceful life on top of a dysregulated nervous system.

When the nervous system is overwhelmed, everything feels harder. The decisions feel heavier. And small problems feel bigger. Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do isn’t another ritual, meditation, or manifestation practice. Sometimes it’s stepping outside, taking a breath, feeling your feet on the ground, and remembering that your body is part of the equation too.

Because if Life is the Altar, your nervous system is the foundation it’s built upon.

This heifer had a calf, and she doesn’t want it. She won’t take it. So three times a day, I’m bringing her into the chute so her calf can nurse. This isn’t convenient and it’s not fun. But the calf needs us to.

One of the core teachings behind Life Is the Altar is that discipline is a spiritual practice. Most people think spirituality happens during the meditation, the ritual, the manifestation work, or the moments that feel magical. But I’ve found it usually shows up here. In the things you’d rather not do. It’s in the responsibilities you didn’t ask for. Or the moments when nobody is watching and there is no reward except knowing you did what needed to be done.

The calf doesn’t care if we’re tired.
The heifer doesn’t care if it’s raining.
The work still needs to be done.

Life is a lot like that. In that not every situation arrives perfectly. And not every relationship begins smoothly. And not every opportunity unfolds the way we hoped.

Sometimes stewardship means showing up repeatedly for something that isn’t easy yet. Sometimes the lesson isn’t about what feels good. It’s about becoming the kind of person who keeps showing up anyway.

We have a heifer right now that isn’t taking her calf. She roots at it and won’t let it nurse. So three times a day, I’m putting her in the chute and helping that calf nurse while she learns.

Most people would call that a setback, and I want to too 😂… but I’ve challenged myself to find the deeper meaning.

The calf hitting the ground wasn’t the finish line for us. It was the beginning of a new responsibility. And isn’t that how life works? The business grows… and suddenly there’s more to manage. The relationship deepens… and suddenly you’re asked to communicate better. The dream manifests… and suddenly you’re responsible for stewarding it.

The initiation almost never looks like the vision board. It looks like extra work. It looks like inconvenience. It looks like showing up again tomorrow.

That’s why one of the core teachings of Life is the Altar is this: Life is initiation, not interruption. The hard moments aren’t always blocking your path, most of the time, they are the path.

The calf hitting the ground isn’t the miracle. That’s just the start.

Last night, this little calf entered the world. And yes, birth is beautiful. But we know this is only the beginning. The real story starts after.

Everything next requires stewardship. The first attempt to stand. The first steps. The first nursing. The first days of just learning how to be a calf.

Our lives works the same way. We often celebrate the breakthrough, the manifestation, the answered prayer, the new opportunity. But what if those moments aren’t the destination? What if they’re the initiation?

One of the core teachings behind Life Is the Altar is that life is initiation, not interruption. The things we pray for don’t arrive to complete the journey. They arrive to begin a new one. And what determines the outcome isn’t motivation. It’s devotion and stewardship.

How you steward your life is the devotion to keep showing up after the excitement fades. It’s the devotion to take the next step. It’s the devotion to grow into what you’ve been given.

This little calf doesn’t know it yet, but life is already inviting it into its next lesson. And if we’re paying attention, life is doing the same for us.

Two bald eagles, just about 50 feet away. And we are not a sanctuary, or national park…. Just our ranch.

People talk about nature like humans are separate from it now. Stewardship changes the relationship.

Healthy grass, trees, water, leaves plenty of room for ecosystems to exist alongside production agriculture. This is what happens when land is treated like relationship instead of extraction.

Life is the altar.
And the way we care for the land always echoes back.
What’s something wild or beautiful you’ve noticed lately that made you stop for a second?

05/26/2026

Every. Single. Day. Somewhere in the middle of the chaos, I make myself stop. I keep my bare feet in the grass. I put my phone down. I throw the damn ball.
And the dogs lose their minds with joy for 15 minutes.

I used to think breaks had to be earned. That rest came after the work and productivity and everything was handled. But I’ve learned that, that mindset will run your nervous system straight into the ground.

One of the core teachings of Life is the Altar is this:

Your nervous system is the foundation.

You cannot build a powerful life on a chronically dysregulated body.

So this? This is not wasting time. This is maintenance. This is energetic stewardship. This is nervous system regulation. This is leadership. Because the version of you that returns to your work after grounding yourself for 15 minutes is not the same version that keeps pushing until resentment, exhaustion, and reactivity take over.

The dogs think we’re playing. But I’m just remembering that life itself is the practice. Everything is an altar.
