Low iron (iron deficiency) can cause very similar, if not the same symptoms as low estrogen.

Hormone therapy is incredibly beneficial, supportive and protective, but it’s not the only beneficial, supportive and necessary thing in menopause.

Keep a wide view and don’t lose sight of foundations like mineral and vitamin deficiencies.

Getting all of these deficiencies fixed, and other hormone imbalances (like your thyroid) addressed, MHT is that much better!

Hormones are changing in perimenopause and post menopause. Your body, brain, joints, muscles and every cell is working to adapt to this shifting hormonal landscape.

It can be frustrating, confusing and uncomfortable.

And, you’re not doing anything wrong.

But, what worked when you were 30 isn’t going to work now. Different strategies are needed. And by “different” I don’t mean harder or stricter.

I mean smarter and strategic.

If you’re not on my email list, hop on for more info on why and how the rules are changing in menopause.

Vaginal estrogen is protective, effective and can even save lives.

It’s not just about pain with intimacy. It’s dry, itchy, irritated tissue day to day, recurring bladder infections, stress incontinence, yeast infections and pelvic floor dysfunction.

The estrogen patch doesn’t always support the vaginal and bladder tissues enough, you often need both.

Don’t be uncomfortable, don’t suffer through painful intimacy and know that you may need to be the one to bring it up at your doctors visit.

Figuring out when to start hormone therapy (HRT or MHT) isn’t always easy. You don’t want to start too late (10+ years after the menopause transition), and you don’t want to start too early.

Get specific with your body and your hormone profile. Perimenopausal symptoms are often due to WAY more estrogen than normal, with varying levels of progesterone.

You may not need estrogen at the first sign of perimenopause but you definitely don’t need to suffer either.

Vaginal estrogen is not part of regular HRT, but it should be.

Vaginal estrogen is super important in protecting your urinary, pelvic and vaginal health. It’s more than pain with s*x - it’s daily dryness, burning and irritation. Bladder infections and recurrent (chronic) bladder infections, and urinary leaking.

You may need to bring this up with your provider. And please do if they don’t ask.

Even if you’re not a candidate systemic hormone therapy, everyone is a candidate for vaginal estrogen (because when used vaginally it doesn’t raise your systemic or whole body levels).

Know your options and find a provider who listens.

Your t-score is not your destiny, it’s a data point.

There’s so much more to bone health than just your T-score. Working on preventing your fall risk and your fracture risk from falling are essential.

You have a lot of influence over your health, even in postmenopause!

I’ll be talking about this more this weekend!

Postmenopause changes physiology.

It does not signal decline — it signals a new set of priorities.

Muscle, metabolism, sleep, and cognitive health respond differently in this stage.

Without coordination, women are left reacting.

Pause Plus was created to provide structure, clarity, and stage-specific strategy in a small, intentional group.

Enrollment closes March 20. In-person participation is limited to 16.

Postmenopause support doesn’t need to involve extremes. Strategic, well informed adjustments to work with your body in the phase is what’s needed.

It’s not about diets, doing more and working harder. You’re not doing anything wrong. There is SO much you do have control and influence over.

Join Savonn and I, and a community of people in a similar stage of life, for our Pause Plus program, it starts in April. A live Q&A will be March 10th.
