Monday's Moments that Matter

My youngest graduated from Monument Mountain High School yesterday. My involvement for the week included:

🏅 Attending an senior award ceremony
🎈 Decorating for the prom
📣 Cheering at the prom walk-in
🤞 Hoping prom would go well
🍩 Senior Family Breakfast
🎓️ Graduation
🥳 Graduation celebrations

So many emotions!

I feel incredibly lucky that I was an engaged witness, able to cheer, clap, and tear up as I watched the graduate stand up and be recognized for all that they've done. At one event I suggested that next year they sell the mini tissue packets for $10/each as a fundraiser! (I'm really going to work on that actually.)

It has been an emotional and wonderful time where I watched and participated in watching young adults be cheered on by people who loved them, friends who had been there for them, and complete strangers who were just so happy for them.

Moments when people can be seen, heard and celebrated matter! I'm so glad I got to be a part of so many.

Monday's "Moments that Matter"

Yesterday I had a 3 hour breakfast with my good friend, Karen Cape. Yes, 3 hours!!!

There were big things to cover, like the end of her run as Technical Director at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and my youngest leaving this fall for Wisconsin (Go, Badgers!). But our conversation didn't solve any huge problems or change the world.

We were simply getting to be together. To listen to each other. And yes, to enjoy some one of the world's best egg and cheese (and thick bacon!) croissants.

It mattered because she matters to me, and I matter to he,r and we took time (again, did I mention it was 3 hours??!!??) to be together.

Cheers to everyone getting to take the time when you can to be with someone you love.

And thank you to the lovely staff at Roses for the incredible food and letting us be in your warm and lovely establishment for so long. (again, 3 hours!)

Monday's Moments that Matter:

The three salespeople were on me as soon as I got close to the store's entrance. They smiled brightly, and slyly maneuvered me to their pop-up in front of the store I was going into. There was no way around them.

They were maybe 6 or 7 years old.

"Would you like to buy something?" they joyously sang in unison.

"Well of course!" I sang right back.

They showcased their wares: handcrafted friendship bracelets, crocheted pompoms, and a hand sewn fabric bag. It was hard to decide but after a little haggling, which was mostly done between themselves, I settled on a friendship bracelet, and went inside the store.

I love the moments where the seller and the buyer are equally happy! But wait, there's more.

Twenty minutes later when I left the store, these industrious salespeople were still at it. As I smiled goodbye, one of them incredulously stopped me with, "Why aren't you wearing your bracelet??!!??"

They took it as an insult, but as I quickly explained I had bought the bracelet for my daughter, their anger turned to joy, and they jumped up and down exclaiming,

"You bought it as a gift??!!?? Then you get a balloon too!"

And they fished a handful of balloons out a pocket, and offered me a choice of colors. I choose pink because they had tickled me pink!

Inconsequential interaction or lifetime memory?

Monday's Moments Matter!

I put my hummingbird feeder out a while ago, and have been watching and waiting patiently.

Yesterday they came! It brings me immense joy to see them.

🤔 I wonder how many million times/second their wings beat.
🥰 I love imagining where they've just come from.
🙋‍♀️ I want to ask them why they've chosen my house to come get a nosh.

The hummingbirds give me a moment of awe and wonder and joy, and having moments like that in my life matters!

Hope something brings you a moment of awe too!

And no, this isn't one of my visitors yesterday. I was too in the moment to capture a photo, but this image made me smile.

Monday's Moment that Matters:

I try to get on the bi-monthly Kindness Campfire call hosted by Dr. Kelli Harding whenever I can. It's a relatively short call, but the repercussions reverberate long for me after it's over.

It's strange in some ways that we need support to be kind, but I find that's the case. We had a great conversation on the call yesterday about the statement I've heard before, "Kindness is free."

I understand the sentiment, but kindness is actually a decision that takes energy and you could spend that energy in a number of different ways.

But when you "spend" your energy on kindness, your investment soars! It's like compound interest!

I want to thank Dr. Harding for all that she does to support kindness. And I want to thank her personally for kindly supporting me when she wrote about my book. I'm very touched by her words - and you can hear me share them on the new audio version of "Good Is Amazing" that comes out May 6th. You can preorder it now on Amazon.

Readers of my book, Good Is Amazing: Stop Overstriving and Celebrate Being Enough, have said that they can hear my voice when they read it.

Well, now you really can!

My audio book, which I narrated, comes out May 6th and you can preorder it on Amazon now. And of course, you can get the physical book there too!

I've been told "Good Is Good Is Amazing: Stop Overstriving and Celebrate Being Enough!" makes the perfect Mother's Day, Graduation and Birthday gift.

I've also been told it makes a great gift for yourself!

Enjoy!

Monday's Moments Matter

I went to a celebration of life yesterday in NYC that was an incredible outpouring of emotions. I wanted to take notes during it on how to live and love and laugh.

As I drove home, the sunlight was setting on farms and mountains and forests that I was driving by. It was moving. Inspiring. Momentous.

The photo below is not actually what I saw, because I was too far "in it" to stop and take a picture. I was singing at the top of my lungs. I bet those who know me well could guess the singers.

I had been terribly sad, and then I was wonderfully happy.

While, I am still sad for my friend, and her family, and all of the world because we lost an incredible person, I am also thankful for moments like I had driving home.

It was small moment. The sun went down. The music changed. But it still had mattered.

Moment that Mattered Monday!

Each Monday I'm going to recount something from the last week that mattered to me.

When we lived in NYC I wanted some flowers, so I bought a window box and planted some. Very soon afterwards, my husband christened it, "The Window Box of Death." The description fit!

I tried often to plant things; sometimes they died before I even got them into the box.

The experience solidified my decision to love and buy cut flowers - they were already dying and it wasn't my fault.

Fast forward to moving here to the Berkshires where last year I planted things for the first time. Mostly I bought plants from Taft Farm that were already growing and then put them in the dirt and they lived. It was nice. BUT - I did actually plant some bulbs too in the fall and . . .

This happened! I can't believe I actually grew something! I feel so accomplished and happy. Yay, Spring! Yay, Daffodils! Yay, yay!

Small moment - and it mattered, to me.

I was in the moment and just having fun yesterday - which means I didn't capture a photo to share with all of you when I spoke at the Bushnell-Sage Library in Sheffield. But I swear it happened!

And what exactly happened?

People came together and were reminded that they are actually doing a good job in life. And that's really AMAZING. I loved hearing from others about moments that mattered to them. Times when they felt really good, even if others might not have counted it as a "biggie!".

I like that. Moments that Matter.

Oh! Alliteration time! Moments that Matter Mondays!

Yes, let's do it. I'll post a moment that mattered from the previous week every Monday. Reminding myself that it mattered, and sharing with others to hopefully inspire them too.

It would be great if you do the same! Post it or share it with someone you love.

Loving this. I'm really excited.

Okay - last week is so easy. Speaking at the Library was a moment that mattered. I could see from the smiles and head nodding in the audience that my stories were resonating and making life feel a little easier for people who were there. Hearing their stories feed my heart then too.

I'm excited to see what will happen this week to post next!

And - as I missed the photo op moment, I'll share the flyer the amazing Friends of the Bushnell-Sage Library made.

Excited to do more of these events and my "You Are Amazing!" parties. Reach out if you know of places that would like me to come speak!

I walked in the doctor's office today (I'm fine!) and looked for a seat, but then see all the kid's books.

There were some of my old favs. Just seeing them made me smile!

I started to read one, and I was transformed.

I was smiling. Laughing. Happy.

Why don't I do this more often?? It was joyous!

Forget reading the magazines for adults or checking my phone one more time!
