This one’s for EVERY Lyme warrior who was told “it’s all in your head.” Chronic Lyme is now listed right alongside Long COVID in brand-new CDC research on chronic illness after infection. Borrelia burgdorferi is officially named. This is no longer a debate, it’s a federal priority. 💚🦠

“The supplement includes research regarding IACCIs occurring after infections caused by SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), respiratory syncytial virus, Giardia lamblia, Coccidioides immitis, Borrelia burgdorferi and other Borrelia species (Lyme disease), and West Nile virus.”

- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Emerging Infectious Diseases, November 2025

Keep making noise. Keep sharing your story. They’re finally listening.

An Air Force Thunderbird pilot thought she would retire as a general but a tick-borne illness left her unable to fly.

Experts disagree about how long it takes a tick to transmit Lyme disease. The CDC says that in most cases, the tick must be attached more than 24 hours. We think that gives people a false sense of security.
What we do know is that the longer a tick stays on you, the more likely it will transmit disease. It’s important to find and remove any tick as soon as possible.

With so many worthy causes to choose from, how do you know where to best lend your support on Giving Tuesday? With 476,000 new Lyme disease cases each year, a gift to GLA is one that could change the life of someone you love—or change your own! Innovative research is crucial to meeting the challenge, but Lyme disease receives disproportionately lower funding than other infectious diseases. While annual cases surpass HIV/AIDS, West Nile virus, and Malaria COMBINED, it receives only a fraction of the research funding.

To date, GLA has achieved several significant milestones, including the groundbreaking discovery of hygromycin A; the very academic research center for chronic Lyme at Columbia University; identifying and funding improved diagnostics to include a rapid test for Lyme and a test for the co-infection Babesiosis; and the world’s only pediatric Lyme biobank and its associated Pedi Lyme Net... just to name a few. We are eager to share plenty more exciting developments in our research pipeline as well! (So stay tuned 👀)Join us this . Small acts make BIG impacts to countless thousands of patients, all over the 🌎 check out our givebutter campaign: https://givebutter.com/GLAGIVE or our facebook campaign.

It is with heavy hearts that we honor the memory of Patricia Smith, who passed away on August 17, 2024. A fierce champion and beloved leader in the Lyme disease community, Pat dedicated her life to the cause of Lyme Disease, leading the Lyme Disease Association (LDA), and tirelessly fighting to advance research, education, and patient care.

She leaves behind a colossal legacy, her work touching countless lives across decades of advocacy and leadership. Her dedication made an indelible impact, from her first outreach to her Congressman in 1992, to her role as a founding member of ILADS, and even establishing the Columbia Lyme and Tick-Borne Disease Research Center alongside Global Lyme Alliance. Pat testified before Congress, contributed to crucial federal documents, and collaborated with organizations like the EPA. She also served on the HHS Tick-Borne Disease Working Group, and worked with LymeX and other national projects.

Pat Smith made the cause of Lyme disease her life's work, with ferocity and a gentle heart. When Lyme is finally defeated, it will be thanks to Pat's work that began all those years ago.

Pat, your resolute commitment and compassionate spirit will continue to inspire us in the fight against Lyme, and we will continue to carry your mission forward. Our thoughts are with her family and all who had the privilege to know her.

Rest in power, Pat Smith. 💚
