🚨 **Not All Peptides Are Created Equal** 🚨
# # # What is a peptide?
Peptides are short chains of amino acids—the building blocks of proteins. Many peptides occur naturally in the body and act as messengers that help regulate functions such as appetite, metabolism, blood sugar, digestion, inflammation, hormone activity, and tissue repair.
As you can see using peptides requires a deep knowledge of the human body and functions thereof. There are risks associated and not everyone is a candidate for certain peptide therapies because it may increase one's risk of developing certain cancers or have negative effects. Please have a conversation with your provider prior to starting any peptide. Even if you know someone that has taken them without any negative side effects.
Some peptide-based medications have been thoroughly studied and approved by the FDA. Others are still being investigated in controlled clinical trials. A product being called a “peptide” does **not** automatically mean it is safe, effective, sterile, or approved for human use.
With the growing popularity of peptides for weight loss, performance, and wellness, it is important to know **exactly what you are putting into your body.**
We have seen patients experiencing side effects who report using research-grade products. The Alabama Board of Medical Examiners has stated that research-grade peptides are not FDA-approved and should not be prescribed, administered, or dispensed for human use by Alabama-licensed medical providers.
This may also mean that people obtaining these products online or through unofficial sources are using them without appropriate medical supervision. **Please proceed with caution.**
While side effects can also occur with FDA-approved medications, approved products have undergone formal review for safety, effectiveness, manufacturing quality, labeling, and appropriate dosing. Providers may have very limited information about the contents, concentration, sterility, dosing, interactions, or possible side effects of research-grade products.
⚠️ **Research-grade peptides are not intended for human use.**
They are generally manufactured and sold for laboratory research purposes and are not held to the same standards as FDA-approved prescription medications. Products labeled **“research use only,” “not for human consumption,”** or similar language should not be injected, swallowed, or otherwise used as treatment.
Potential concerns include:
🔹 Unknown purity, ingredients, or potency
🔹 Incorrect or inconsistent concentration
🔹 Variable dosing from one vial or batch to another
🔹 Bacterial, fungal, chemical, or particulate contamination
🔹 Lack of verified sterility testing
🔹 Improper storage or shipping
🔹 Counterfeit or mislabeled ingredients
🔹 No FDA review for safety, effectiveness, or manufacturing quality
# # # What about Retatrutide?
Retatrutide is an investigational medication that activates the GIP, GLP-1, and glucagon receptors. It is currently being studied in clinical trials, but **as of July 2026, retatrutide has not been approved by the FDA for weight loss, diabetes, or any other medical condition.**
The FDA also states that retatrutide cannot legally be used in compounding and has not been found safe and effective for any condition.
Therefore, products currently being sold as “retatrutide” outside a legitimate clinical trial are **not FDA-approved retatrutide medications.**
💉 Your health deserves medications obtained from legitimate sources, manufactured under appropriate quality standards, and prescribed by a licensed healthcare professional who can review your medical history, medications, laboratory results, risks, and response to treatment.
We understand the struggle many people face with weight management and the lack of insurance coverage for FDA-approved treatments. Unfortunately, this has created a market in which some companies promote research products as cheaper alternatives.
We want to help you succeed in your health journey and feel confident in your body—but we also want you to do it as safely as possible.
✅ Before beginning any peptide or weight-management treatment, speak with a qualified healthcare provider about evidence-based options that are appropriate for you.
**Your health is too important to gamble on a product that has not been approved or intended for human use or not appropriate for you personally.**
