This past Sunday, our team completed our annual Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) training.

EVOC is an important part of emergency medical services. Operating an ambulance in an emergency situation requires specialized skills, good decision-making, and an understanding of how to safely navigate changing road and traffic conditions. Our crews train on vehicle handling, emergency driving techniques, defensive driving, and other scenarios designed to help us respond safely and effectively when seconds matter.

And this isn’t a one-and-done training. We require our staff to recertify in EVOC every year, giving us an opportunity to continually refresh our skills, practice safe driving techniques, and prepare for the unexpected.

Ultimately, it all comes down to one thing: keeping our staff, our patients, and the public safe while navigating our roadways. ❤️

Also, huge THANK YOU to Life Line Emergency Vehicles for allowing us to use their parking lot to conduct this training in a safe, controlled environment. Having the room to practice and put these skills to work is incredibly valuable to our team!

We’re excited to share some great news from last night! Our team received a $10,000 grant from the Bremer County Community Foundation, and this support will make a real difference in the care we provide.

With this grant, we’ll be replacing an aging Stryker cot and outfitting the new one with a OneWeight OneDose scale system. This system gives our crews instant, accurate patient weights and medication dosing guidance—information that can truly shape outcomes during critical moments!

We’re incredibly grateful for this investment in our mission and in the wellbeing of our community. Thank you Bremer County Community Foundation, for helping us continue to move forward!

Some months training night looks a little different, this month lived up to that. Tonight we made our 2nd annual trip to the Sumner Aquatic Center to work on emergency scenarios with this year’s group of life guards. It was a fun group to work with and we here at SEMS can assure you that your families are in good hands at the pool this summer!
