Several years ago, I was making almost everything from scratch.
Homemade meals.
Homemade dog food.
Homemade cleaning supplies.
Homemade laundry detergent.
I was avoiding processed foods and trying to optimize every aspect of wellness.
And honestly?
In the pursuit of “perfect” wellness, I was stressing myself out.
That stress was contributing to insomnia, anxiety, burnout, and social isolation — all in the name of health.
As someone who deeply values kindness and connection, I also started realizing my habits could unintentionally make others feel judged or uncomfortable around food choices, even when that was never my intention.
I’ve come a long way since then.
One of the biggest things I’ve learned is that balance is not a fixed destination.
What feels supportive for one person may feel overwhelming for another.
And even when we find balance, life changes.
Seasons change.
Our needs change.
This is also one reason I’m such a fan of health coaching.
Health coaching isn’t about perfection, rigid rules, or forcing someone into a prescribed version of wellness.
It’s about working collaboratively to support someone’s goals in a way that meets them where they are at — taking into consideration their lifestyle, stress levels, capacity, priorities, and what actually feels sustainable for them.
Because wellness should support your life, not consume it.
If your pursuit of health is leaving you chronically stressed, exhausted, anxious, or disconnected from joy, it may be time to simplify.
Because stress itself can have profound effects on the body.
Take care of yourself conscientiously, but not at the expense of your peace, relationships, or ability to actually enjoy your life. 💛
